WA, Broome, Cable Beach Caravan Park

Date of Stay: June 2016 Rating: 2
Staff were friendly when checking in, but the cost was astronomical at $57/night (2 people). For that price I expected a top shelf park, but was sadly disappointed. Pool was nice but shaded/cold most of the day. Amenities closest to us were old and in poor condition (but cleaned daily). They are in desperate need of an update. Hand dryers positioned over urinals didn't help either! There seemed more modern, clean amenities nearer the pool. We were positioned at the rear of the park with a road directly behind. Traffic used the road from early morning making for a noisy site. Walk to the beach is 5 - 10 mins - from the front of the park. Double that if you're down the back. Suggest there are better priced parks in Broome with better facilities. We rang this one based on the name (Cable Beach) as we were coming from a remote area and didn't have time to check all van parks first - our mistake.
Friendly staff, no complaints. Poor value for money $57 for 2A PN, powered, peak season. Amenities are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Kiosk, dump point, secure entry. Noisy, adequate shade. Clean BBQs. Clean pool, pool is shaded. Suitable for few days.
Disliked:- Amenities.
Parking:- Parking VERY limited for check in. Vans often banked up all down the adjoining road making for severe congestion.

Qld, Gold Coast, Main Beach Tourist Park - Main Beach

This park is in a great location and has excellent facilities for couples and families. Restaurants and the beach are close by. Just need to be aware of a couple of things. Sites are tight to get into, and whilst internal roads are one way, you might find the only way to get onto your site is to drive up the internal roads the wrong way (for eg to avoid a power pole or close by neighbour when backing). Lots of people do this, and staff in the park tell you to do this, but they dont tell you at the office. Suggest you ask at the office when checking in. Also, whilst they advertise wifi, it doesnt work everywhere in the park (as with some other parks) - in fact it was extremely hit n miss. So DON'T rely on having it in this park

Qld, Bedourie, Simpson Desert Oasis Roadhouse

Date of Stay: September 2014 Rating: 3
Very friendly staff, no complaints. Good value for money $30 for 2A, ensuite, peak season. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, dry change area. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites. No wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Quiet, open & roomy park, no permanent/annual vans. No BBQs. No playground. No pool. Suitable for few days.
Liked:- Park is basic - is in a remote location, but operators (who run shop/bar opposite) are very friendly and helpful. General sites are first come first served (no set sites) but only really busy around race weekend (Sept). En-suites are generous with a fantastic verandah area. Lots of take away, and fresh food available at shop -check when the supply truck is due.
Parking:- Huge parking area outside shop/petrol station.
Added Touches:- Free shuttle out to the racecourse on race weekend.
Local Information:- Town has an (old) pub and a great swimming pool (cold). Good stop off place on the way south to Birdsville.

Vic, Echuca, NRMA Echuca Holiday Park

Date of Stay: May 2014 Rating: 4
We've stayed here before during peak times so thought it would be nice and quiet - nope. Lots of vans in - testament to the location (a 2 min walk from town). Some sites can be a little tight if you're pulling a 'monster' behind you. Recently opened is the most impressive new amenities block I've seen. Showers, toilets, dressing/seating areas, basins at either end of the facilities, and family rooms. All connected to a new games room by a timber verandah, overlooking the pool with new BBQs. An excellent addition.

Vic, Robinvale, Riverside Caravan Park

I hesitate to report on this park - not because I am unsure of what to write, but because if I say its one of the best I've stayed at then everyone might go there. Friendly staff at check in; an immaculately kept park; sites where you can sit in your van and practically throw a line in the Murray from your window. Fire kegs and wood (at a small cost) to keep you warm. New, clean amenities. Walk to town. River walks. Great spot!

NSW, Broken Hill, Outback View Holiday Park

Date of Stay: May 2014 Rating: 3
You can see old machinery etc from parts of the park, but I'm fairly sure its on the neighboring block. Some sites were grassed - others not - but hey, while its not desert country - it is the outback - so surrounds are managed by the weather a fair bit. Stayed at the Top Tourist park on the way North, and here on the way South. Was happy at both.
Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints. Good value for money $30 for 2A PN, powered. Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Quiet, open & roomy park. No playground. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Liked:- Very friendly and helpful at reception. Showers/toilets showing a bit of age but were always clean.
Disliked:- Might get a bit damp and slushy during rainy times.
Parking:- Plenty of parking out front.

Tas, Strahan, Strahan Holiday Park

Date of Stay: February 2013 Rating: 4
Arriving from the North (Queenstown etc), its quite easy to drive past the entrance (there are several). Reception is actually part of a small group of shops on the roadway, so parking sometimes difficult. Found amenities and park generally quite clean. Have ensuite type facilities scattered around the sites - ie a block of 2X unisex showers with toilets, and 2 unisex toilets only. Park was busy but facilities always available. Overpriced for a standard powered site but so seemed everything in Strahan compared to the rest of Tasmania (don't buy LPG for car here!). DO go on Gordon criuse and the live show - The Ship the Never Was. Note there are 2 parks in Strahan - opposite each other - and both owned by the same people. This one looked nicer. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($44 2A PN, shoulder season). We paid $40 because of Chain discount. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Peaceful, no permanents. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Liked:- Walk to Town. Amenities. Cafe, bottle shop, public laundry adjacent.
Parking:- May need to pull into park (and hence block access for others) to book in, but not a big problem.

Tas, Chain of Lagoons, Lagoons Beach Campground

Date of Stay: February 2013 Rating: 3
Great, large free camp area with two entrances off main road. North area being updated with new fencing, newer style bush toilets. This area is closer to lagoon and surf beach and hence is more popular (about 35 vans in the weekend we were there). South area has standard 'long drop', is further to walk to beach (400m ?) - hence is less populated. Both areas will take large rigs. A local/regular camper told us that Parks and Wildlife are going to start charging for camping here, once improvements have been finished. Still, a great location. Fires allowed.

Tas, Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park, Discovery Holiday Park

Date of Stay: February 2013 Rating: 4
Agree with all previous comments. Just want to add that no all powered sites are wide enough to take a caravan and awning (eg avoid powered site P5 if possible). Despite booking 3 months in advance and being a park club member, we were allocated a small widthsite whilst small campervans were given larger sites. Would appear to be the luck of the draw.

Tas, Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay Camping Area - Richardsons Beach

Date of Stay: February 2013 Rating: 4
We stayed in the powered campsite area. Sites are not large (but they advertise that fact), but we were able to get out 17 ft van on site with the awning out. Hint: don't leave your BBQ out overnight - the wildlife will have a field day with it. Toilet block is good, but note unisex shower block is separate - with 3 showers (only 2 working). Our site was about 10 metre walk to a pristine beach with mountains in background. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Very good value for money ($16 2A, shoulder season). Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower, soap provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, no wireless internet available. Peaceful, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.
Liked:- location, peacefulness.
Local Information:- Stay a week - enjoy the area.
