WA, Kalbarri, Kalbarri Anchorage Caravan Park

Date of Stay: October 2012 Rating: 4.5
Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($50 2A 3C PN, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is very good, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Vodaphone, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided. Clean pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Liked:- The atmosphere was great.
Disliked:- The uneven surface we had to walk along to get to the toilet. There was a speed hump and at night it is hard to see so you go to the side but the road is breaking away so that makes it unsteady also. We also saw 2 elderly ladies fall of the wall around the BBQ area as they didn't realize there was a drop. Probably a tin of white paint might fix both issues.
Added Touches:- The park provided karaoke one night with just a donation requested from the DJ, they also have bowling advertised on several days although we didn't attend that. Also a sausage sizzle available for purchase or burger on Thursday nights which adds a special touch. We overlooked the river and as the park sites are tiered quite a lot of sites would have river views.
Local Information:- Going to the national park never loses its attraction. Still awe inspiring to look at the gorges. Shop nearby felt the need to charge for plastic bags which was only put in place after a few days of us being there and then it became apparent that that rule only applied to tourists so the lady told the person in front of me. The fish and chip shop near the park was at least $3 dearer a piece of fish that the one further up and it was delicious and generous. Much better to walk a bit further to the shops. The river is beautiful and hiring a slow boat for the day was great. Would recommend to take a picnic and stop on the way on one of the islands.
Road Conditions:- Came in coastal way and it was great. Quite a lot of roadkill and so would try and get through there before dusk.

Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Liked:- Quiet and secluded. Toilets were immaculate at all times and smelt very sanitised not bleachy. Handtowel and big bin. Soft toilet paper.
Disliked:- Too far from town and too dark for the me and the kids to go to the loo at night. Our site wasn't too flash but about 20 sites are good ones. We were just leftovers and had no water. Had to walk to get water and didn't have a container for this task. No bench in shower to put your stuff although heaps of hooks. Water pressure not so good.
Parking:- Nowhere to park when booking in. Had to move car and van twice in 10 min just to book in.
