NT, Alice Springs, G'day Mate Tourist Park

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 4
This a brilliant park, the owners/managers bend over backwards to make you feel at home. The amenities are spotless and there are enough to satisfy the clientele. Good value for money at $36, for a powered site for 2 adults. it was too cold to use the pool but it looked clean and like the rest of the park well maintained. There is no dump point but you can empty your cassette down the sullage point, apparently this is one of only 8 sites in Aus with this facility. I don't know if I really like the rubbish collection idea where there are no bins, but a single point (the back of a truck) , so there's no recycle segregation. These are small niggles and I heartily recommend the place for a week or more.

SA, Coober Pedy, Oasis Coober Pedy Tourist Park

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 3.5
I really liked this park and would certainly recommend it. It is in the desert so don't expect grass, and I doubt that you could drive a stake in to secure your tent. There are a couple of permanents and there are some sites undercover, which would be a good thing in the hot weather. It will take big rigs and has a number of drive through. Previous reports so far in 2014 are accurate in describing the place. One comment I would make is why spend all that money on the new ablutions and not put in a hand dryer or at least paper towels?

NT, Darwin, Darwin Boomerang Motel And Caravan Park - Virginia

Date of Stay: July 2014 Rating: 3.5
I totally agree with Buster K above. This is a well run park, the managers are friendly and very helpful. There is always good and bad but the good far outweighs the other. Really the only complaint I had was the size of the sites , we have a big van, and it was a bit difficult getting into a site. But the cost and the ambiance make up for this. The pub is next door, there's a little deli as well and a service station. With other parks charging up to $65 in the peak season the $40 here (less TT discount) was very welcome, and of course the sausage sizzle. Easily spend a month here, there's so much to see and do in the area. Recommended.

NT, Daly Waters, Daly Waters Pub Caravan Park

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 2
The main reason for stopping here is the pub itself. It is truly an Aussie icon. Apart from that there's not much to recommend the place, however as it is an iconic place, I recommend the stopover.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money $30 for 2A PN, powered, shoulder season. Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is bad / Variable pressure experienced, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, poor water quality. No rec room, no camp kitchen, van parking, wireless internet is available costs, you can use your mobile wireless, carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 1. Noisy, claustrophobic park, inadequate shade, no permanents. No BBQs. No playground. No pool.

Disliked:- Dusty, very ordinary amenities.

NT, Cape Crawford, Heartbreak Hotel Caravan Park

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 2.5
Heartbreak Hotel at Cape Crawford is along way from anywhere, so you have to be prepared to pay a bit more and expect a bit less. Diesel was $2.24 a litre, but the food was reasonably priced, so perhaps it balances out.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money $28 for 2A PN, powered, shoulder season. Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Another TT park that ticks most of the boxes. It was easy to get on site the staff were helpful and the park is highly recommended. My only comment would be that with only one amenities block some site have a fairly long walk.

Qld, Emerald, Discovery Holiday Parks - Lake Maraboon

Date of Stay: May 2014 Rating: 4
This is a great park, 19K's out of Emerald, so its not a real effort to get into town. They have a restaurant on site and the meals were good, and reasonably priced. I could only see one permanent, but there could be more. That was not an issue.

Qld, Carnarvon National Park, Takarakka Bush Resort - Carnarvon Gorge

Date of Stay: May 2014 Rating: 3.5
Takarakka is a bush camp. Don't go there expecting double slabs, etc. Having said that it is unique and quite beautiful. The welcome is brilliant, all the information you could want, the sites while not necessarily dead level are huge and easy to access. They have a conversation pit, double plus, good camp kitchens and the amenities are adequate. There is a talk on points of interest on alternate evenings at 5pm and that is a first class presentation. Although there is no TV reception and no Mobile phone, the free WIFI allows communication and there is a landline payphone. So whats not to like? Well there are only two washing machines and no dryer in the laundry. There was no paper towels nor hand dryers in the toilets. I guess there are reasons for this, Power is at a premium, hence no dryers, and rubbish has to be removed from the National park, hence no waste paper. These faults are minor, and are more than offset by the wealth of things to do and see, or if you wish just kick back and veg out with nature. I would recommend a minimum of 3 nights.

Qld, Mitchell, Major Mitchell Caravan Park

Date of Stay: May 2014 Rating: 3.5
A nice park, with a good ambience. It lacks the sophistication of the big chains but all the same I enjoyed our stay.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money $30 for 2A PN, powered, shoulder season. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, shade to some sites, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile, wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Noisy, open & roomy park, inadequate shade. Clean UC electric BBQs are free, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Liked:- The conversation pit, ease of access.
Disliked:- We had to run our sullage on the ground outside which is a bit messy. In a peak time it could be a problem.

Liked:- Near the river and just short walk to town. The manager was very free with tourist advice.
Disliked:- The concrete slabs were a bit "cosy" but the grassed areas were more generous.
Parking:- Only one way in and if someone was booking in you just had to wait.
Local Information:- Cowra has a lot to offer the visitor, a week here would be OK.
