Vic, Echuca, NRMA Echuca Holiday Park

Date of Stay: September 2015 Rating: 4
Super park only a couple of minutes walk from the Old Port and the township - we have not had our car out since arrival. New camp kitchen would win prizes anywhere - absolutely superb. Large ablutions with a set of very old toilets at other end of park, so very handy. Our site not large and at the pointy end of a triangular setting, but it IS school holidays so the park is full, emptying and filling daily!! On location alone, would stay here any time we visit, and the park itself is nicely maintained with lots of green grass and plenty of trees.

This Caravan Park has been named Caravan Park of the Month in Caravan and Motor home Magazine today. It is a KUI Park. We stayed there two nights ago - possibly the warmest welcome we have had anywhere from Andrew. Their updated facilities are large and spotless (there are even two chairs with foot mats, if waiting for a shower!!) grass is green nearly everywhere. Check in is after you are settled and there is no hurry to check out. Thanks Andrew and Deb - you have done an incredible job since purchasing this park last February - we really enjoyed our stay with you. Town is an easy 5 minute stroll from park.

WA, Perth, Perth Vineyards Holiday Park - Caversham

Date of Stay: June 2013 Rating: 5
We have stayed twice now at this park. We had to leave a day early due to unforeseen circumstances and the park management allowed us to hold our unused day over until we were able to return. Amenities in this park are 4+ star, if not 5 - amongst the cleanest, brightest we have come across. Park is close to the West Swan vineyards, chocolate factories, honey and nougat factories, and Whiteman Park. Despite lots of construction going on in the park during this stay, enabling a multitude of cabins to come in, we and our friends enjoyed a wonderful week there. The plane noise is negligible. Thank you Sheila and Staff - your Park is highly recommended. We paid $36 PN with BIG4 discount ad our friends received the same discount on production of their Seniors Cards. Well done.

A very friendly, clean and tidy park, within a few minutes' walk of the town centre and the lovely foreshore area. On Highway 1 and close to train line, but noise from both is minimal. Some sites have no shade. Is very windy here, at this time of the year, so not many vans have awnings or annexes up. Facilities are near-new and well maintained. Shower and toilet stalls are large. Great for an overnight stay or for a few days.

A very basic park - no shade but water and power to sites. Toilet cubicles very small but showers roomy. Licensed bar opens between 6-7 daily. Very windy here at this time of year. Missile park in town is interesting - Roxby Downs is better for shopping etc. No fuel here, and apparently Roxby Downs is cheaper than Pimba. Worth a visit.

SA, Coober Pedy, Oasis Coober Pedy Tourist Park

Date of Stay: November 2011 Rating: 3
A park in the middle of the desert where water is scarce. We paid $5 for water on our site, with no restrictions on usage. Is a basic, clean, tidy park with great staff. Games room and pool are in old oil tanks - unique and well looked after. Our town tour with Rudy was really good value - a real raconteur who knows the opal business and the town very well, having lived and worked there since 1974. Combining that tour with the Sunset tour to the Breakaways, cost $150 for two. The park's owner, George, took us out to the Breakaways - it was wonderful with a light supper as the sun set in the West. Lots of information too. Possibly the highlight of our 8 month trip around Aus, was the day trip we did with the Postman, Peter, from Coober Pedy to Oodnadatta, 4 Stations (including Anna Creek, the largest in the world) and William Creek - a trip of 600+ kms. On our day, there were only 4 passengers - Peter, you gave us a day to remember with your stories, local information, friendliness and as many photo stops as we wanted. Coober Pedy is one town we will come back to.

Not a great deal to say about this park - very basic indeed. Gravel sites - lucky, as it absolutely poured the evening we visited, and flooded, then drained away very quickly. A lot of the park has been let go - the large convention centre (maybe it is utilised just the once a year for the UFO Conference in March ), the lake, the train - so it looks rather shabby. Staff in shop friendly though English is obviously a second language. Meal in restaurant in evening was very nice - Chinese/Australian fare offered. Lots of UFO Memorabilia and cuttings - an interesting place for an overnight stop on the "Track".

NT, Alice Springs, MacDonnell Range Holiday Park

Date of Stay: November 2011 Rating: 4
A really nice park, though with the famous "children's" facilities that we older travellers do not need - nor should pay for. Though that is a complaint heard so often on our travels - maybe the parks could look at a different price range for those travellers without children Very well maintained park, very friendly staff - green lawn area to bays - we got auto upgrade to ensuite site, having booked for more than 4 nights. Paid $205.20 for 6 nights with BIG4 discount. Like a lot of places in the tropics at this time of year, some tours and attractions have closed for the Wet. Hermannsburg was very interesting, and the West MacDonnell Ranges day-trip was excellent. Good shopping centres in town, about 8 minutes drive from park.

Qld, Winton, Matilda Country Tourist Park

Date of Stay: October 2011 Rating: 2
Park manager Tammy very pleasant and helpful with choosing site, and also checking on welfare of residents following a huge storm one evening. Very basic park, amenities are clean but lack shelves or enough hooks in shower recesses. Washing machines in open-air between Ladies and Gents. Water pressure not bad if no-one else is using at the same time. Did not need to use the hot tap at all as water was hot enough out of the cold one. Not sure if the other manager works on site - 36 hours after large storm, at least 10 rubbish bins still lying around the park and broken branches still strewn throughout. Did not get a very friendly response from him when I reported a leak in the amenities - but he may have had a hard day. Unable to visit Lark Quarry as it closed down 10 days ago due to a structural fault, so worth checking before going to Winton if that is on your list. We did go to Longreach for the day, and that was worth the drive. Waltzing Matilda Centre will easily fill in 3-4 hours - magnificent. Is also TIC and Westpac Bank facilities. North Gregory Hotel does not do lunches, but other hotels do and RSL bistro was to re-open on 31st October. We had a nice evening meal at BP Roadhouse next door to park.

Qld, Atherton, Lake Tinaroo Holiday Park - Lake Tinaroo

Date of Stay: October 2011 Rating: 3.5
This park is about 17 km from Atherton, right on the shores of beautiful Lake Tinaroo. Drive through sites are best. Some shaded sites. Amenities are reasonable, though only 1 of the 4 showers in one of the amenities blocks had a decent shower head. Plenty of attractions within easy drive - eg the Curtain Fig Tree near Yungaburra, the wonderful Chrystal Caves in the centre of Atherton, the Peanut Place (Atherton) and the Coffee Works in Mareeba. Staff very helpful - very small shop.
