Qld, Bamaga, Loyalty Beach Campground and Fishing Lodge

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 3.5
Good campground with a friendly atmosphere. Main amenities central near kiosk and portable amenities OK at northern end of campground.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money $28 for 2A PN, powered. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, no wireless internet available., you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, no permanents. No BBQs. No playground. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Liked:- This park is relaxing bush style camping and is right on the beach and has heaps of shaded sites. There is a nightly large open eating area that has a bar and different meals ($15) each night in a friendly atmosphere (we were there early June 2014 ). Picked up a HUGE, freshly caught (still kicking) delicious crayfish from one of the local indigenous men for $40......would cost $120+ in any eatery anywhere in Oz.
Disliked:- Bad night lighting. Must take a torch for safety.
Parking:- Pick your own site and let the office know where and how many nights you will be there. $12 PP/PN.
Local Information:- 5 minute drive to Seisia wharf for ferry to Thursday Island. Be aware of the local laws with alcohol limits. There are crocs and brown snakes all year round in the Cape York area. Old WW2 aircraft wrecks close to Bamaga airport.
Road Conditions:- The Peninsular Developmental Road generally was pretty reasonable with a lot of roadworks (late May 2014). 4x4 recommended but AWDs would be OK if driven to the conditions(also had a few off road caravans/campers on the way north). The old telegraph track is ONLY for very well prepared 4x4s with high clearance. We found winches and snatch recovery gear in a group is a necessity. Some very deep washouts with steep entrances and exits from creeks.

NSW, Evans Head, Reflections Holiday Park

Date of Stay: March 2014 Rating: 3.5
Had a great stay here for a week. Huge holiday park and caters for every type of camper / visitor. Has a large camp kitchen with everything in it and is kept very clean, has plenty of tables and bench seats. Park is well kept with clean amenities and the entrance is boom gated. Only a couple of hundred metres to main street, shops and eateries. Clubs and a pub border the park so no need to take a vehicle for a night out. We stayed on a slab site up towards the bowling club and found it a very quiet area. Vans with low draw bars or tow hitches could find it awkward reversing from the lower road as the gutter is just in the wrong place for the rear wheels of the tow vehicle. This park has most things that are required but would be a mad house over Christmas - New Year because of the sheer size of the park. Did not have any midges where we were but they are prevalent near the river part of the park.

We spent a week here with our van on a lakeside powered site @ $38 p/n Top Tourist rate. The powered sites away from the lake are cheaper and still reasonable value. Clean amenities and very well keep grounds with everything you need for a pleasant stay. There were a few midges around this time but stayed twice before in the cooler months and didn't get bitten at that time. Very quiet van park well away from main roads. It is about 2kms to the town centre so a vehicle is best if you need to shop. Certainly good for a week or more - would be super busy in holiday seasons as most van parks are.

WA, Perth, Quinns Rocks Caravan Park - Mindarie

Disliked:- Terrible water in the park, bore/artesian and staff recommended not to connect to your van. Drinking water available at several points but very low pressure to fill containers.

NSW, Mylestom, North Beach Caravan Park

Date of Stay: November 2011 Rating: 3.5
Well maintained grounds with level grassed sites but very little shade in the centre. Very quiet park but with a lot of bird life. The amenities block needs to have some work done on the taps in the showers and hand basins as nearly all were leaking. Fishing seemed to be good as many good size fish had been caught whilst we were there. The park is not fenced and there are many sites adjacent to the road so security could be a problem on these sites. Very basic camp kitchen with tables and seating, laundry has 6 washing machines and plenty of lines. Local bowling club has excellent Chinese meals at a reasonable price. Beach is long and very clean sand. Certainly good for a week or more. Family Parks member discounts and also seniors discounts. Quoted $132 for the week on a powered site out of peak season. Good value.

Great overnight or few days. Rubbish bins and flush toilets and covered change sheds maintained by council. No drinking water, bring own firewood. Clean area, reasonable shade, some grass, tables and benches, a few fireplaces. Very quiet and will take most vans, etc. Couple of nice walks. Suitable for few days.
