NSW, Twelve Mile Creek, Australian Motor Homes Tourist Park

Date of Stay: September 2014 Rating: 2.5
This park is easily accessible off the main highway, but the road noise overnight is incessant. It is an extremely busy highway with hundreds of trucks passing through the night. We had a friendly welcome and were shown to our site which was flat and you can stay hooked up without any problem. The price at $30 was OK. The water to the van and in the showers is bore water but it seemed to be of good quality and a nice shower. The shower and toilet facilities are very basic but work OK and cleanliness looked OK. We would probably press on and try Raymond Terrace next time. Much too noisy for us.

NSW, Cowra, Cowra Van Park

Date of Stay: September 2014 Rating: 4
This is a very tidy park, well located within easy walking to the main street and clubs/pubs. The sites are flat with many having concrete pads and concrete aprons. It is a busy park with many staying overnight. The price at $36 is up there but pretty good value when compared to other NSW van parks. The park has lots of trees and grass. The facilities are old but have been re-tiled and kept nice and clean. The welcome was friendly. The Manager Craig is professional and direct in a no fuss way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and recommend this park. The town was lovely in spring and the Japanese Gardens and hologram of the Cowra Japanese POW breakout is worth seeing at the Visitors Information Centre. I understand that a 10% discount applies if you stay for a week.

NSW, Yamba, Calypso Holiday Park

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 3
The sites are all relatively flat with larger vans down one end where the sites are a little more spacious. The more crowded end has better facilities but they are showing signs of lots of use. The facilities in the middle of the park are old, not very inviting but the showers have lots of hot water and good pressure. Friendly staff and helpful. Reasonable value at $30 for a powered site and one free night if you stay for a week. Nice town. Good golf facilities and good bowls club. The pub is worth a visit and refreshment for the view. We will stay again and put up with the average facilities.

NSW, Lightning Ridge, Opal Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 5
This park is without doubt the benchmark for the industry. It does have the benefit of being new but the high standard of fit out has been well maintained. Flat sites, easy drive through, good size and wide roads. Great dump point with a car wash bay that has good water flow. The amenities are big and well laid out. The showers have plenty of room with a good amount of shelves and lots of hot water. At $30 a night for a powered site (after discount) it was good value by comparison to other parks encountered along the way (for the same price). It is quiet and just down the road from the Artesian Baths. The only downside is that the ground is very hard and almost impossible to drive a peg into. But this park has that covered as well and provides a drill to put up any annexes or other things that need a peg or three. Staff were very friendly and professional, providing lots of information about the area. An interesting place made all the more pleasant because of this high quality caravan park.

NSW, Forbes, BIG4 Forbes Holiday Park

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 3.5
This is quite a good park with reasonably flat sites with plenty of room for drive through and concrete aprons to most sites. All sites have a television plug so you can get reliable reception. The welcome was friendly and efficient. At $28.60 a night for a powered site it is probably around the mark (after Big4 Discount). The camp kitchen is basic but well appointed. The showers are aged but provide plenty of hot water. The showers and toilet are locked and only one key is provided for the male and female. Next time we will ask for another key. The laundry is reasonably appointed. The park is secured by a boom gate which requires a key inserted for entry and exit. The internal roads are well maintained and wide enough to give easy placement of the van. Very little road noise - the occasional truck in the night, but very light traffic generally. The town has all the facilities. A nice club, flat golf course and the Motor Museum is worth a visit with honey and wine tasting and good coffee and light meals available. Worth a few days stay - or very good for overnighters.

Vic, Swan Hill, Swan Hill Holiday Park

This park is a few k’s out of town but did not inconvenience us. It is on the highway but the traffic noise is quite muted in the night. The sites are flat and have good access with many large concrete slabs. The facilities are old but kept clean. The rubbish bins are some distance away and lighting in the area at night is poor. There are quite a few shade trees and the lawns are well kept. The staff are family orientated and very friendly. The best part about the park is that they do caravan servicing and repairs on site and you can continue to stay in your van (just vacate it and go into town on the day it is worked on). We found the work excellent and the owner took the time to explain in detail what had been done and why. The cost of the service was reasonable by city standards and the powered site was $29 a night. We will return again, particularly to use it as an annual site before heading north and get a good service of the van done.

NSW, Moama, Moama Waters Caravan Park

Date of Stay: July 2014 Rating: 4.5
The park is located a few k’s outside of Moama but in my opinion is well worth it. The park is still in the development stage but the caravan sites are not affected. The sites are relatively flat and only require minor levelling if you are pedantic like me. We were offered an ensuite site for the same price as a powered site ($35) because things were quiet during winter. It was a pleasant surprise. The shower is the best I have had with plenty of hot water and an overhead shower head ensuring a great shower. Each ensuite site has heating, their own rubbish bin and there is a good dump facility available close by. The laundry was well equipped in modern facilities. The park has its own boat ramp if you need one. There is a nice playground and a couple of great tennis courts. The staff were friendly and responsive to a couple of minor issues raised. Telstra worked OK in the park. All in all a great park. We intended to stay just three nights and stayed a week. The Moama Bowls Club is a fantastic community facility and offers some cheap meals and wifi. The Rich River Golf Club and Resort is also worth a couple of visits. The Jazz Festival was well worth the effort with lots of quality street and pub entertainment – free. The town of Echuca is large and has everything you need from a shopping perspective. We will stay again if the breeze blows us this way.

Vic, Melbourne, Discovery Parks - Melbourne - Braybrook

Date of Stay: January 2013 Rating: 4
This park is handy for those coming from Adelaide and has a bus service to Melbourne city just outside (but don't expect it to run anything like the schedule). The welcome was friendly and we were shown to our site. Booked on the internet and a credit card fee applied. Average staff response to requests for advice on local eateries or how best to utilise public transport (with inaccurate, non specific advice on timetabling). Also not particularly flexible if you want to extend a stay - most mornings saw caravans being moved to extend a night or three (with some required to move three times to get three nights extension). Swimming pool, inside spa, games room, tennis court - all of the regular features of a large city park. Well laid out park with attention to the gardens. Peak season we paid $52 a night for two adults on a powered site - with $5 member discount = $47 a night. Pretty expensive but it is well located, good facilities and reasonably quiet (some occasional aircraft noise early morning and late night depending on the wind direction). We would stay again.

Vic, Ballarat, BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park

Date of Stay: January 2013 Rating: 3
A big park. Professional greeting and shown to site. The park was full and has limited spaces for vans over 20 feet. Our site was slanting to the front and even with a small pad for one set of wheels, not very level. The site was dry and dusty but it was the middle of summer. Most other sites had concrete aprons. The park is built for families with a jumping bag and swimming pool. Nice common facilities. Reasonably close to the town and walking distance to the goldfields attraction. $36 a night after discount - about the going rate in school hols. Facilities OK with plenty of hot water. Would stay again.

NT, Tennant Creek, Outback Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2012 Rating: 2.5
Good overnighter. Flat sites, easy accessible although the concrete surrounds made it difficult to get in and out of the van. Some sites had slabs. Old facilities but adequate. Friendly staff with a bar open in the afternoon, nice pool area and some entertainment that you pay for during the evening. Nothing flash but good for the weary traveller.
