NSW, Merimbula, Sapphire Valley Caravan Park

Date of Stay: November 2017 Rating: 4.5
This well maintained park is well grassed, roomy and airy. It has reasonable protection from south coast winds and is within walking distance to the shops. They are installing cricket practice nets within the park! You don't see that every day.........or want to.
$35 for 2A. Paid $28.50, reduced for top parks. Sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers. carrier used was Vodaphone, reception quality was 2.
Parking:- Tons of room while waiting to book in.
Added Touches:- Gold coin donation for sausage sizzle Friday night was noisy and awful. Pancakes at 10am other 4 weekdays may be OK.
Local Information:- Oaklands coffee shop on highway and just out of town, at South Pambula, has excellent coffee and food. I dare you to eat all their serve of pancakes.

Qld, Hughenden, Allan Terry Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2017 Rating: 4
All the sites are very long drive-throughs so if you are the second rig into a site, you have to back in. There is a free car wash within the park; in the land of dust! Commercially Hughenden is depressed with about 20% of the shops closed down.
$28 for 2A. Sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers. Carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4.
Parking:- Parking at reception is limited to one at a time so wait in the street.
Local Information:- Drive to Richmond to the dinosaur display. It is excellent.

NSW, Lennox Head, Lake Ainsworth Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2017 Rating: 3.5
This large park can suffer from the prevailing wind as it is largely unprotected by trees. We didn't see a kitchen or barbecue in the 5 days we were there. We think they are down the back with the reducing number of permanents. The sites are generous and easily accessed by large vans.
Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money $39 for 2A PN, powered. Paid $31.20, reduced for chain discount = 1 night free. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry, no wireless internet available. carrier used was Vodafone, reception quality was 4. Quiet, open & roomy park, inadequate shade, a few permanent/annual vans. No playground. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Disliked:- Reaching the keypad at the boom gate is very difficult due to badly located barriers.
Parking:- Stay hard left approaching the boom gate. There's only room for one rig. When busy, they line up all over the street.

A warning at reception about high water pressure was correct. If your hose fittings are poor quality, they will fail. It is a substantial uphill walk to the amenities if you are at the back of the park.
Very friendly staff. Good value for money $38 for 2A PN, powered. Paid $34.20, reduced for top parks. Amenities are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Local Information:- Shopping centre, fast food and hotel with average but overpriced food are nearby. BP servo. is next door.

Qld, Hervey Bay, Scarness Beachfront Tourist Park - Scarness

Council ownership probably explains the perfect location of this park. it's long and thin with beach on one side and the shopping street on the other. At $41 per night its not bargain basement but why should it be when it is constantly full in this season?
Friendly staff. Good value for money $41 for 2A PN, powered. Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic camp kitchen, dump point, van parking. Quiet, open & roomy park, no permanent/annual vans. No playground. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Liked:- Great location.
Parking:- Drive in, curve right and obey the sign.
Local Information:- Any day trip to Frazer Island is good. "Frazer Experience" is more personal with a smaller tour group.

Do not accept site number 40. Its extremely difficult to enter if you're towing anything bigger than a dog kennel. Last week someone damaged multiple panels on their tow vehicle hitting the locally infamous yellow posts. NOTE, this location is in the process of leaving Top Parks so future discounts are unknown.
Friendly staff. Good value for money $38 for 2A PN, powered, peak season. Paid $34.65, reduced for top parks. Amenities are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Vodaphone, reception quality was 3. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, a few permanent/annual vans. Clean pool, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Liked:- The 2 hour free concert from The String Family (itinerant performers) was excellent.
Disliked:- The dump point is in a garden shed! On entering you are presented with a smell that will outlast taxation and a hip high concreted dump point to ensure all splashes are closer to your face. Creative!

Qld, Airlie Beach, Island Gateway Holiday Park

Date of Stay: August 2017 Rating: 4.5
This park is busy and had 4 occupied people working behind the desk on Sunday afternoon. There are about 130 sites & you'd describe ours as generous. This is a good average park with the biggest and best ablutions block. The ablutions block is immaculate and looks brand new but isn't quite. Despite pre booking, we could only stay 2 nights because it was booked out.
$45 for 2A. Paid $40.50, reduced for top parks. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Open & roomy park, adequate shade, no permanent/annual vans. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Liked:- The amenities block.
Parking:- Drive in and immediately park on the RIGHT hand side.
Added Touches:- They feed the parrots every afternoon at a designated site in the CP.

Qld, Townsville, Magnetic Gateway Holiday Village - Cluden

Date of Stay: August 2017 Rating: 3
The greeting at reception made me feel like a necessary burden. Not a good start after being hopelessly lost for 40 minutes trying to find the place. We had a map and GPS - both wrong. People arriving minutes after us said they'd been lost for an hour with outdated map and GPS - Google maps helped. Recent extensive roadwork has cut many streets in two and made crossing motorways impossible. Most sites have a 30cm high concrete bollard, disguised as a sullage drain. They are located the width of a van plus 50cm from your elevated slab. They are painted yellow to help you quickly identify what tore the pipework out of your van while you were backing on site. There is good grass on most sites and it is maintained. There is quite a reasonable pool but the bottom is stained or dirty. There are about 15 parks in the Townsville area. Choose one which can be easily located.

Qld, Kurrimine Beach, Kurrimine Beach Holiday Park

Date of Stay: August 2017 Rating: 4
This park is now owned by a company which owns 4 or 5 other parks. The vegetation is lush and appealing. The sites are tight for a large van but manageable. Very friendly & informed greeting. Good tropical grass or slab on sites. Showers have curtains.
Very friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money $38 for 2A PN, powered, peak season. Paid $34.20, reduced for top parks. Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Kiosk, dump point, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Quiet, adequate shade, no permanent/annual vans. Clean pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Added Touches:- Happy hour is 5pm.

Qld, Cooktown, Cooktown Holiday Park

Date of Stay: August 2017 Rating: 4.5
So you are wondering where to stay in Cooktown. That's why you are reading this. Cooktown Holiday Park is a Big4 = big features & big prices. It is beautifully presented & professionally run. Visually, it's like parking your van in someone's tropical back garden. Sites are irregular in pattern but organised and nearly all are fully grassed We paid $48 2A per night. As this is the most I've ever paid, I could do with a few less flowers and a lower tariff. This may be the Cooktown park for you if you have kids to amuse. If you have a short motorhome the "Orchid Caravan Park" could be the answer for you. It's very cramped but in the main street. You can walk to all shops. If value for money is your aim, "Peninsula" is probably the best with spacious sites to rival the Big4 and much cheaper.
