NSW, Cobar, Cobar Caravan Park

Date of Stay: July 2020 Rating: 3
A bit dated with some evidence of lack of maintenance. Located next to a Caltex Truck Stop, so overnight noise can be an issue with trucks stopping and starting. Located on main road, which is on a slight hill and at the point of speed limit change, with heavy vehicles using exhaust brakes - very loud.
Average staff friendliness, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money $58 for 2A 2C PN, powered, peak season. Paid $52, reduced for BIG4 Discount. Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic camp kitchen, wireless internet is available is free, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3. Noisy, claustrophobic park, inadequate shade, a few permanent/annual vans. Clean UC gas BBQs are free, dismal bbq area atmosphere. Suitable for overnighter.
Liked:- Close to town.
Disliked:- Noisy from trucks, not overly helpful, tight sites for larger vans.

NSW, Lightning Ridge, Opal Caravan Park

Date of Stay: July 2016 Rating: 4.5
Lightning Ridge had received approximately 12 inches of rain in the week leading up to our arrival, as evidenced by the amount of water on the sides of the road all the way from Walgett. With this park being predominantly gravel, this ensured that all sites were relatively bog-free. A credit to the managers of this park - sites and facilities and amenities were always spotless. As previously mentioned - DO BOOK - this place is busy and you may just be disappointed if you simply roll-up expecting a site. Overall, one of the best parks we have stayed at.

Good laundry, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry, van parking, wireless internet is available is free, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, no permanent/annual vans. Clean UC gas BBQs are free, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Liked:- Large, wide sites. Showers were roomy and had glass doors. All facilities and amenities are spotlessly clean.
Parking:- Adequate parking area whilst checking in.
Added Touches:- Shuttle bus into town during the day. Car and caravan washing area. Front desk will book tours for guests and tour buses will pick up from this park.
Local Information:- So much to see and do - some quirky, interesting characters in this town. Local tourist information centre is very helpful. Bowling club has great meals. Walk-In Mine was good to see, however, at $20 per person, was a bit steep - most other places were $5 each. Car Door Tour is a must do!
Road Conditions:- Road conditions were a bit average, however the region had experienced significant rain in the week leading up to our time in Lightning Ridge. Nothing significantly out of the ordinary for an area such as this.

Qld, Tara, Tara Caravan Park

Date of Stay: July 2016 Rating: 1.5
A 'true' caravan park - plenty of caravans parked...permanently. Only 2 x possible powered sites, plus a grassed area for an unpowered site (x1). This park would be considered as being run-down, with a somewhat modern amenities block built by the local council several years ago. Caretakers explained that they were only temporary until a permanent manager could be 'hired'. Having said that, the caretaker staff were friendly, very helpful and were doing their best and making something out of what is really a poor venture. 95% of the park are permanents, with the majority of vans/annexes/sheds being a mere poorly slapped-together bunch of recycled materials. During the first night, we discussed leaving in the morning and trying for a site in Condamine (some 50km away) as we felt uneasy about the place and some of the residents. Ended up staying the 3 x nights we had booked, but in future, we will probably stay elsewhere nearby even if it means 30 mins of travel time.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money $25 for 2A PN, powered. Amenities are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad / Variable pressure experienced, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, late checkout allowed, disabled facilities, van parking, no wireless internet available., you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Noisy, claustrophobic park, inadequate shade, many permanent/annual vans. No BBQs. No playground. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Liked:- The temporary caretakers were friendly and offered good local knowledge and advice about some of the places to avoid around town.
Disliked:- Run down, lack of adequate suitable sites, the focus on permanents, lack of suitable drinking water (mainly bore water, but rainwater from tanks was available).
Parking:- Room for one van whilst checking in, but I don't imagine this would be a problem at this park.
Local Information:- Great food, with healthy servings at very reasonable prices at the local pub (Commercial Hotel). Foodworks grocery store nearby.
Road Conditions:- Some areas around town roads were quite narrowly-sealed with barely enough room for one vehicle, let alone passing a truck or another van.

Manager's name is Tony & Dawn.
It is quite obvious once you enter this park that alot of time and effort is invested into it to make it as attractive as possible. Given the location and often lack of rain, the grassed areas and gardens were a welcome sight and well maintained. Overall, a quiet, relaxing place to stay.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money $30 for 2A PN, powered. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, late checkout allowed, secure entry, van parking, no wireless internet available., you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, a few permanent/annual vans. Clean UC gas BBQs are free, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Liked:- Well maintained, quiet, open.
Disliked:- We were located close to some of the permanents, who sometimes determined that their music taste should be shared openly with other guests.
Parking:- Plenty of space to park whilst waiting to check in.
Added Touches:- A pathway leads to the Mill Inn Tavern, located next door. Good food and reasonable prices, but was quite busy and we had to wait a while for our food, which we accepted as being reasonable at the time.
Local Information:- Foodworks and IGA supermarkets nearby. Great local bakery.
Road Conditions:- On a few occasions we had to straddle the gravel on the shoulders of the 'highway' to safely pass oncoming vans or trucks. Some of the local roads just outside of town are either barely maintained or are gravel (good to reasonable condition).

Disliked:- Mosquitos were quite bad for about an hour each evening, but expected due to location.
Parking:- Adequate space to park whilst checking in.
Added Touches:- Local RSL had courtesy bus available.
Local Information:- This park has its own jetty where water sport activities can be had, including hire of equipment.
