NT, Mary River, Mary River Wilderness Retreat And Caravan Park

Date of Stay: July 2014 Rating: 4
Nice location on the banks of the Mary River. A good distance from Darwin en route to Kakadu NP to overnight or stay a couple of days. River cruises available or hire a small runabout. Staff cautioned us to stay at least 5 meters from the river bank if walking along as large salt water crocs inhabit the river. We saw a couple of good sized ones on the river cruise. The park has huge areas for non powered sites and an adequate number of powered. Most sites shaded and quite generous in size. There is one ablution block and would get overwhelmed during busy periods. The condition was however kept quite acceptable. Nice pool and resturant. We showered in our van so can't comment on the amount of hot water and the pressure appeared quite good. Now the condition of said water. The staff at reception did warn us that if we used the laundry not to wash anything white if we wanted it to remain white. Apparently the clothes come out with a rather orange tinge. Apparently the bore water has a very high iron content and while they do filter it the colour and smell remains. Definitely not what I would recommend for drinking or cooking but other water is available but even though re filtered still has that "rusty iron pipe" smell and taste. We used our tanks supply. No other complaints other than the shocking water quality but I guess in defense of the owners there is little else they could do. Not the worst quality I have seen but getting up there.

NT, Berry Springs, Tumbling Waters Tourist Park

Owners Darren and Jenny have obviously put a lot of hard work into making and keeping this a park that guests want to return to. Very friendly and helpful staff, A nice location with Berry Springs recreational park and the Territory Wildlife Park just a very short trip away. Both well worth a visit. Far enough from Darwin to have a "country" atmosphere but close enough to be only a short journey to the CBD. Would stay again for sure. We used the shower in our van so can't comment on the pressure or amount of hot water. The ablution facilities were cleaned every day so very good from that perspective. The water, while not appearing to have any smell did seem to be slightly discoloured but good after putting through our filters. Likes. Could fill pages about this park. Dislikes. A minor one. The bays could be a tad wider. When the van is set up with the awning out the whole bay is occupied. Well the ones where we stayed were. This leaves the cars parked at the very edge of the bays and occasionally partly on the access roads.

WA, Kununurra, Ivanhoe Village Caravan Resort

This park is located within a short walking distance of the main shopping precinct. Shady, mostly generous sized bays. A couple could do with a bit more grass but I guess it isn't that easy to grow grass in a well shaded area. Ablution blocks close to most sites were cleaned daily. Definitely a "stay again" park for us. Water good and pressure adequate. Night lighting good.

Owners Ian and Julie, very nice people, made us feel welcome. We stayed for 2 nights initially and then moved the van to their storage area while doing the Gibb River Road. Very reasonable rate. Returned 3 weeks later and stayed another 10 days to do tours. Always felt safe. Excellent sites as far as shade and size goes. Good water pressure. Clean and modern ablution blocks. Should be adequate for peak periods. All in all a well cared for park and would definitely stay again..
