NSW, Cowra, Cowra Van Park

Date of Stay: May 2015 Rating: 2.5
I chose this park for nostalgia reason, having stayed there as child, but when you pay $36, the most expensive so far, you tend to be more critical, such as the very noisy family in one of the cabin, the road noise from a main road into town with trucks using exhaust brakes, and another road used by what seemed all the locals going back on the main road and boy racers. The park was very clean and tidy, but the amenities very dated. Camp kitchen was new and clean, but one of the BBQ’s dirty.
Friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money $36 for 1A PN, powered, off-peak season. Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad / Variable pressure experienced, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3. Noisy, open & roomy park, adequate shade, no permanent/annual vans. Dirty UC electric BBQs, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground, in good condition. No pool. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Liked:- Surprised at the grass under the very shady trees.
Disliked:- Noise and cost.
Local Information:- The main tourist sites such as Japanese Gardens, historic site such as the Cowra breakout site and POW camp, but did have run in with the local louts while withdrawing money from the ATM

NSW, Leeton, Leeton Caravan Park

Friendly reception, but a bit Stalag like, $20 deposit for a swipe card to get in and out the gate, signs stating showers closed from 9pm to 7am - I think this may apply to a separate block, as the four near in the main block where always open, very neat tidy, but lacked shade and the camp kitchen looks like it has not been used for a while, and needed a clean, and lacked hot water, BBQ’s were coin op, but couldn’t see a price, maybe needed a token like the laundry, which cost $11 to do one load, wash and dry.
Average staff friendliness, no complaints. Poor value for money $33 for 1A PN, powered, off-peak season. Amenities are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad / Variable pressure experienced, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen, secure entry carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2. Quiet, open & roomy park, inadequate shade, a few permanent/annual vans. Dirty UC electric BBQs fuel costs unknown, dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground. Suitable for overnighter.
Liked:- Good grassed areas, well marked areas.
Disliked:- $33 per night for a single person is getting hard to justify.

Again one of the few caravan parks that was friendly to single male travellers, always very quiet, but apparently can get rowdy during big events in town. As other reports indicate, the four show cubicle share a common drain, and I found showers went cold when ever a toilet was flushed, I would be concerned what would happen during a busy period, also door and window always open, made for a chilly visit in the mornings.

So the amenities aren't flash, but they are very clean, the owner very friendly, was interested why I was shocked at the low price, $10 per night for unpowered site is unheard of since the 80’s, I’m reasonably self contain and only need a shower and toilet, and for a single male traveller in a ute and swag finding a friendly owner is very rare.
