NSW, Narrabri, Big Sky Caravan Park

Date of Stay: May 2019 Rating: 5
A really great park! We are campers, but the layout is very well suited to vans driving in and out. Council pool right next door. Staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Camp area is nice and open surrounded by trees. Like many towns out this way Narrabri needs rain; so a little dusty on some sites. Very tidy place. Amenities are older but quite roomy and very clean.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money $27 for 2A, unpowered, off-peak season. Amenities are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point, wireless internet is available is free, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Optus, reception quality was 3. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, no permanent/annual vans. Clean UC BBQs. No playground. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Liked:- Staff are really friendly and helpful. We were just unpowered camping, but they asked us how we found the campground. Narrabri Creek runs just behind the park which even had pelicans in it! Park is very close to town center yet it was quiet and peaceful. Camp Kitchen was being extended whilst we were there.
Parking:- Not a huge amount but adequate; plenty just outside in street if there was a line-up.
Added Touches:- They do a regular sausage sizzle on Wednesday evenings. New feature just added a couple of weeks after we were here; they are starting a doggy-minding service with some dedicated on-site kennels to care for your pup if you want to go out for a meal or same.
Local Information:- Kaputar National Park MUST SEE!, Australia Telescope Compact Array, Piliga, Old Gaol Heritage Museum, Sawn Rocks to name a few things. Narrabri is a really nice town with great people. Excellent nearby Vet and also Kennel out of town that can do doggy day-care when you want to visit a national park.

NSW, Nowra, Gradys Riverside Retreat

This is really set up for un-powered camping, and caters for campers, fishermen and water skiers. Good boat ramp, parking. Water skiers must use the river further down as river in front of campsite is kept for swimmers, canoes, paddle-boards and occasional fishing boat. Did not have need this trip (just 2 nights) to check out all facilities.
Friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money $36 for 2A PN, unpowered, shoulder season. Amenities are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Basic laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, no wireless internet available., mobile wireless not available, reception quality was 1. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, many permanent/annual vans. Clean UC gas BBQs, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground, in average condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Liked:- Dog friendly! Generous campsite size made setup and pack up very easy. River location is second-to-none. Numerous little beach spots to access river swimming. Fresh water taps and bins located close to all sites. Grassy, level sites. Lots of trees for shade. Permanent sites are separate from camping area. Family friendly, considering number of campers. Steel drums for fires available.
Disliked:- Long walk and steps to amenities; that's about it!
Parking:- Not a huge amount of room to park at office.
Added Touches:- They have a kids activity boat with deck and water slide they launch for kids to use in the river. Not sure if this is a cost but a great idea! BMX track for kids.
Local Information:- A little off the track from Nowra, so allow 20-30 minutes back to town if day trips are planned.
Road Conditions:- Winding and narrow but good road, take care in narrow single lane section just before arriving at the Retreat (give way to oncoming vehicles!). Plenty of good signage on road to Retreat.

Just an update: the pool is now complete! It is a beautiful addition to a fantastic park! The pool is big, and well-thought out with kiddies pool, miniature "suspension bridge" and spacious design. Park is always updating. Family friendly park at it's best!

A camper's perspective! Very nice park, great people running it and so much to do in the area. The campsites (for tents) are quite small; our family size tent "hung over" on to other sites! Fortunately, no problem as it was very quiet and was not an issue for others. We had a snow flurry on our last night (it was August, after all!) Bonus of close-by "Pet Resort" (Mt Victoria) for doggy day-care!
