Qld, Yarraden, Musgrave Roadhouse

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 4
A very good location for an overnight stay to or from Cape York. Large area, grassed with some shade. The facilities were good. $20 per night, no power, and no water, apart from one tap. Food and drinks available, and quite busy with passing traffic.

Outstanding park. What made it great were the owners, oh and the price. We were driving up to the tip of Cape York so left the caravan at this park. The cost was for one night's accommodation-$20. And you can leave your van for as long as you wish. The facilities are great, the owners are just lovely, and very knowledgeable about the area. There are plenty of sites, most quite large, and good shade. Given the location and time of year, a little dusty. We only stayed 1 night, but would have liked to have stayed longer. The water supply is bore, but there is fresh tank water available. Space and grass areas areas available for washing vehicles, essential after the Cape. This is a site we now use as a benchmark against all others. The large chains should take some note, friendliness and price are very important.

Good place for an overnight stay on the way to or from Cape York. No power, but water is acceptable. Plenty of space, but dusty with no real grassed areas and limited shade, but it is what you would accept for the location and time of the year. Amenities are not for the faint of heart, not very clean and no soap, but at $20 a night. The hamburgers are legend. Closed for wet season.

NT, Kakadu National Park, Kakadu Lodge And Caravan Park - Jabiru

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 4
Good location to explore the National Park. Our assessment is that it's the best park in Kakadu. Large well grassed sites, no slabs, well treed with nice gardens. Large park but well laid out with the pool and Bistro in the centre. About $34 per night for 2 people based on paying for 3 nights but staying for 4. Very quiet park and the facilities are very good. Given that it is at the end of the season, very few sites are utilised, but the park should be able to cope with a large number of vans. A most enjoyable stay.

Qld, Atherton, BIG4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park - Atherton

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 4
Large park with a range of accommodation, stayed 5 nights in a powered site. Lovely park with well maintained gardens, and areas for children with nice pool and BBQ areas. The amenities were spotless. Good sized sites, we were placed on a difficult to park site, the groundsman had to give me detailed directions but it was very large and rolled into the bush behind the park. $37 per night. Difficulties in establishing WIFI, needed to sit near the office. Enjoyed our time here and would have liked to stay longer, it is a great location to explore the area. Lots of shops in the town, indeed the local IGA grocery store was better than many in Capital Cities.

Qld, Mount Surprise, Undara Experience - Undara

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 4
This park is part of the Undara Volcanic Park, and the tours to the lava caves can only be undertaken through the resort. Sites are large, no grass but some shade, there is power and water. $38 per night 2 people. Oh and you do get your own little BBQ. The tours are great and the resort has a range of activities including a restaurant and nightly entertainment, like bush poetry...for those that like that sort of thing !! The facilities are very good, toilet and shower combined and unisex. Stayed 2 nights and would have liked to have stayed longer. An enjoyable park.

Qld, Karumba, Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 3.5
There are a number of parks in and around Karumba, this one is located out of the main town on the beach, and we were of the opinion the best of them all. The sites are quite large, facilities were quite good, clean and well maintained, and, with a beautiful fish cleaning area. Unfortunately I was not successfully in utilising it . The park is very dusty, with no grass whatsoever, trees provide some shade. $34 per night for 2 people. Given the location one would expect ants, and they did not disappoint, location and time of year dictate that, but take insect spray, still dealing with them 4 days after leaving. Many people stay here for considerable periods over the dry season, so is likely to be crowded, but in October was good. Unfortunately owners still situated every van next to each other, notwithstanding the park was less than a fifth full. Alternating sites would have been a better customer option. Without crowds, a great place to spend some time over winter.

Qld, Normanton, Normanton Tourist Park

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 3.5
Good park for a few nights whilst you explore the area-including the train to Croydon, a must for train tragics. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The sites are average, with a number of drive-through. $32 per night for 2 people. Power and water. They also provide cooled drinking water in the camp kitchen. Facilities were just OK. The swimming pool was lovely and clean. Care needs to be taken with security, ensure everything is locked away. The owners looked after our van and vehicle whilst we were away for the day. Very little in the town, so don't expect restaurant quality meals.

NT, Daly Waters, Daly Waters Pub Caravan Park

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 3
An interesting experience, the draw is the pub and the barra and beef. The pub is very quirky and deserves a visit. The sites are not well defined, power and drinkable water, sparsely grassed with some shade. The facilities are quaint, shower and toilet combined and unisex. You need to wear footwear as the floor is very rough, with the lock being a piece of wire, and a sign on the outside advising to knock before entering. There are newer facilities but they were locked as the peak season was finished. $28 per night for 2 people. This pub/park gets very busy in peak season, so facilities and space may be stretched.

NT, Katherine, Big 4 Breeze Holiday Park

Date of Stay: October 2014 Rating: 4
Lovely park, large with well maintained grounds. Sites are all grassed, no concrete slabs, power and drinkable water. The facilities are clean large and well maintained, although half of the toilets and shower cubicles were closed because of the end of the peak season. Excellent number of BBQs spread out throughout the park with a very large and well equipped camp kitchen. $36 per night for 2 people. A very good location to explore the area and National Park. A very quiet park with good facilities for families. Will stay again on the drive back South from Darwin
