Vic, Natimuk, Natimuk Lake Caravan Park

Date of Stay: April 2019 Rating: 2.5
The lake has not held water for many years, and the area can get dusty if winds get up. There is a 'jetty' out onto the lake that is about 3.5m above the dry lake bed, so parents should keep an eye on their youngsters. Unless you are into mountain climbing (Mt Arapiles is nearby) there is not a lot to do in Natimuk, but if you are after a quiet overnighter, this will suit you well. Town water not recommended for drinking, rainwater available.
Friendly staff, no complaints. Reasonable value for money $30 for 1A, powered. Amenities are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, basic rec room, basic camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Optus, reception quality was 4. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, no permanent/annual vans. Clean UC electric BBQs are free, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Basic playground, in average condition. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Liked:- Very quiet, well away from main highways and railways.
Parking:- Next to Reception

I'm sorry, but I need to report differently to some recent reports. In many respects, this park is good, but the amenities disappointed us and I could not see how the park was rated 4 or 5. Maybe the ensuite sites (ie ensuite amenities) are far superior, I could not tell. There are two main amenities blocks, the older central block and the newer block at the north-eastern end. My comments re the old block: The shower and toilet cubicle doors and doorframes have been painted so many times that many of the doors don't close or need to be forced. The hand basins have separate hot and cold taps with very short spouts, making it difficult to wash your hands. The shower heads are too low, and the shower spray is a fine ring of high pressure that is only about 100mm diameter when it hits your body. Spray goes everywhere, and it is impossible to keep the change area dry. Comments re the newer amenities block: This is much better - use this one if you can. The shower heads are higher, but of similar design. Some appear to give a slightly softer jet, and may keep the change area a bit drier. The hand basins here are good with a central 'mixed' outlet. Cost was reasonable, we stayed 3 nights and the 3rd night was half-price, then our chain discount off the sum, so paid $79 for 3 nights. Other reports indicated 'few' permanents - few may be in permanent use, but there are many permanent vans with annexes etc. However, there are still numerous tourist sites. Friendly staff. Water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, annexe slabs to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 1). Quiet. Clean UC gas bbq $1 for 25 minutes, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.

In many ways, this is a good caravan park, but we had a few disappointments. We stayed for a week in an Ensuite (Upgraded) powered site, and 3 nights in a Chalet Deluxe Premium - their classifications. The Upgraded Ensuite was $49/night for 2 adults off-season, which I think is at the higher end of ensuite site costs. I think the showers in the ensuites were below-par for the cost, because the fabric shower curtain let water spray onto the floor, and also was drawn into the already small cubicle by convection so you always had the shower curtain clinging to your body, not comfortable. The Premium Deluxe Chalet has similar a shower curtain, but the cost here was $150/night for 2 adults. Surely, at these rates, they can put glass panels around the shower. There was no mop or squeegee in either the ensuite or chalet (although when we complained they did buy a squeegee mop for the ensuite). The toilet in the chalet is very cramped due to the curved shape of the walls - my right shoulder was hard up against the wall. If you have small children, you may want to reconsider staying in the chalets as the two single beds are upstairs about 2.7m, accessed by a steep ladder with steps 30 cm apart and no safety chain at the top. The handrails and steps definitely do not meet Australian Standards. My last complaint relates to maintenance. The barbeques were not regularly cleaned by staff, and no rubbish bins were near the BBQs. We had problems with the power point supplying power to the camper at the ensuite site, the plugs would not hold in the socket properly. We complained on the Thursday morning, they had an electrician look at it but did not get it fixed until the Monday. Much of the grass around the sites had not been mown for some time, and bees were very active on the dandelions, okay for us, but a worry for small children. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints. Dirty UC electric bbq (free), bbq area lighting.

This park seemed run-down to us, and at $39 per night, powered site, 2 adults (before TTP discount) I think is over-priced. They need to spend some of that money on refurbishing the amenities. The amenities nearest us (first level up) had tiny change area for the showers, although there were glass screens to the shower. The second level amenities also had glass screens, but larger change area. However, mould/mildew on the ceilings is not a good look, and the drain from 2 showers went to a central point so you may 'share' the grey water from the other shower. Good phone and TV reception (aim antenna 190 deg). Friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites.

Top Tourist was full so we came here - happy we did. Quiet spot, and nicely set-up. Some Drive-thru sites. May give Senior's discount if not Family Parks member. Friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($31 2A PN, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, good rec room, good camp kitchen, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Quiet, open and roomy, plenty of shade. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

The BIG4 is getting expensive so we tried here, happy to come back. Some noise from the trains across the water, but no highway noise. Friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money 2A PN, powered, off-peak season. We paid $28 because of TTP Member. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, some sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry. Clean UC electric bbq (pay)$1, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Fantastic park. We had a week here in an ensuite powered site for $243 after our BIG4 discount (ie weekly rate was $270). The ensuites are fairly new, spacious, and well appointed, with a glass screen door to the shower. I had a look in the normal amenities, and they are also clean with a plastic shower curtain to keep the change area relatively dry. There are numerous free gas BBQ's around the park, a great camp kitchen and great games room. Other attractions include swimming pools, playground, mini golf, jumping pillow and lawned areas. The owners have put a lot of work into this park (redeveloped in 2005), and it shows! The ensuite sites have matting for the annexe/awning, all other sites are grassed. Bitumen roads throughout. Some noise from Caves Road nearby during the day, but it quietens down at night. Definitely worth a visit. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers. Good laundry, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with Roger Morgan about this park. No-one was present at the Reception so I had a look around. It still looked very run-down to me, and was still for sale. At $34 per night, 2 adults, it looked over-priced. Mind you, we stayed at the Top Tourist's Seafront, and I wasn?t all that impressed with that either. You decide.

Manager's name is Merv & Laurel Trestrail. This is a great park, only 8 years old, and spotless. Merv and Laurel built this park when he retired off the farm,'for something to keep him busy' and somewhere to set up his museum. At $27 per night for a powered site, 2 adults, it was much better value than the park at Wave Rock. I don't think you would be disappointed staying here if visiting Wave Rock. Some fellow travellers staying here in motel units payed $60/night for a small air/con room with bed, fridge and TV, but were quoted around $150 at Wave Rock CP. Also, if buying fuel in the Hyden area, check the price at the self-service BP outlet on the southern side of the main highway, western edge of Hyden. In Aug 2013, they were MUCH cheaper than the other 2 outlets for diesel - pay by credit card (or BP Card) only. Make sure you visit Merv's museum - at $3 per adult it is great value. He conducts tour usually twice a day. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenities were adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, dump point. Quiet, open and roomy, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Manager's name is Gary & Kay. We were charged $32/night for 2 adults at Seniors discount, for an ensuite powered site. The park has had a major facelift and looks terrific. We could not access the regular amenities, but understand from others that they are also very good. The ventilation in the ensuites could be better, but overall they were great. The BBQ near us was clean, but $1 only lasted 10 minutes or so - a bit expensive as it was electric and took 2 - 3 coins to cook a meal. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Clean bbq.
