NSW, Tamworth, Austin Tourist Park

Date of Stay: August 2015 Rating: 4
Good park for an overnight stay, and probably good for longer. If staying overnight, ask for one of the drive through sites near the front of the park. These are adjacent to the excellent amenities block, and next to the barbecue area. The park is far enough from the road so there is no traffic noise. There is also a much bigger area further into the park, but we didn't go there. Next door to the park is a hotel/motel. On weekend it has live country music, which we really enjoyed, and they do a good pub meal and excellent Tooheys Old on tap. Recommended.

Lovely location on the Lachlan River. Large treed and grassed sites. Good clean amenities block. We have stayed here three or four times, on overnight stays while travelling on the Newell Highway. It is a little hard to find. You turn off the highway at a Shell service station, then follow the blue caravan park signs round several turns. Eventually you come to another caravan park, a Big 4, which is rather crowded and much more expensive. Go past this and take the next turn to the left to get to the Apex caravan park. Recommended.

NSW, Ashford, Ashford Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2015 Rating: 3
Basic caravan park run by the local council with a nice rural outlook. Good place for an overnight stay. Grassed sites, some drive through. Clean basic amenities block. Only $13 per night for 2 adults, powered. Laundry with modern washing machine for gold coin donation, no drier. Book exchange, undercover picnic tables and barbecue. Excellent value.

NSW, Corowa, Bindaree Motel And Caravan Park

From the road, you can only see the motel and office, then the site dips down towards the Murray River. You drive through a really shabby area of permanent caravans to get to the transient sites, which are right on a pretty lagoon, with resident pelicans and a view of the main river. There are no marked sites, so you just choose where you want to camp. There are several power outlets. The site is well grassed and treed, but the trees are mature river red gums, so you need to find a spot that isn't directly under them, in case of falling branches. The amenities are right in the middle of the permanent van sites and were clean and adequate. When we were there, there were no permanents staying, and only one other van near us, but it would be different in summer. The staff were very helpful, and it was OK for an overnight stay out of the main season.

This is a lovely caravan/camping ground, with huge grassed sites, and the best amenities I have ever seen at a caravan park. It also has campfires (some wood supplied) and real wood fired barbecue facilities. We had previously stayed at the nearby caravan park on Lake Bjelke Peterson, but this place is much nicer. Highly recommended.

Qld, Yeppoon, Beachside Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2015 Rating: 3.5
Absolute beach front park with million dollar views across the water to Great Keppel Island. Book first, because it was booked out every night we stayed, and ask for a beach front site. Good clean facilities, excellent camp kitchen, excellent modern laundry, walking distance to Yeppoon shops. Right on a main road, so some traffic noise. Several entrances from the park right onto the beach. There are only a couple of unpowered sites, and they are not very good, and only suitable for small tents or swags. Site was hit by a cyclone in March 2015, but by August much of the vegetation had recovered. Recommended.

Qld, Elliott Heads, Elliott Heads Holiday Park

Date of Stay: August 2015 Rating: 3.5
Nice low key caravan park run by the local council. Right behind the beach. Excellent value for money @ $180 for a week, 2 adults, powered. Some sites are smaller and hard to manoeuvre in and out, so ask for a larger site. Well laid out park, with lots of trees. Amenities block is older, but very spacious and very clean. Elliot Heads is quiet and relatively undeveloped for a prime beach side village, and only about 15 minutes drive to Bundaberg. There is a general store, plus a very nice beach side cafe/kiosk, which is one minute walk to the caravan park and does excellent fish and chips etc.

This park has two sections. The front section looks good, but the back section, over a bridge into a bare paddock is horrible. If you can only get in there, go somewhere else! It is mostly unpowered sites, with many permanents on untidy powered sites around the edges of the paddock. The amenities are very old and very basic. Although they were cleaned each day, they are too run-down to clean properly, have dodgy locks on the doors and no hooks in the shower cubicles. I can't report on the showers because I was so put off by the poor amenities that I avoided using them. On the way out, we used the key to open the boom gate, but couldn't pull right through because a motor home ahead of us had stopped blocking the driveway, so he could return his key. The boom gate came down hard on our van, and we only avoided damage because it hit our draw-bar, not the van. When I reported this to the office, the response was "Oh, it happens all the time!" I suggest finding another place, and can recommend the caravan park at nearby Imbil.

Very pleasant caravan park with good facilities. Well treed sites and very good price - $20 per night for two adults, powered site. We asked for a drive through site, but they had none available, but gave us a site where we didn't have to unhitch, for an overnight stay. Very friendly and helpful management. Recommended.

NSW, Byron Bay, Clarkes Beach Holiday Park

The most expensive caravan park I have ever stayed at - $57 night for 2 adults, powered. It was almost worth it, but you'd expect perfection for those prices. The staff were not very friendly or helpful. We had one of the "concrete sites", which are literally wall to wall concrete, and quite small. We couldn't fit our vehicle on the site, if we wanted to put the awning out on our 15 foot caravan. Next to us was someone with a 20 foot caravan, and he had the back bumper touching the back of the site, and his draw bar hung over the front into the road. Opposite us were people in a big camper trailer. They took up the whole site, and had to use rocks taken from the garden beds to hold down their guy ropes, as you couldn't peg anything into the concrete. The park is terraced up a slope from the beach, and the higher level terraces had bigger sites, but were further from the only amenities block and a little further from the beach. However, they were much better sites than the ones closest to the beach. The whole park was beautifully vegetated, lots of tropical plants, palms etc. The amenities were lavish and very clean, and there was a huge modern laundry.
