WA, Karratha, Discovery Parks - Pilbara

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 3
This park has deteriorated rapidly over the last 12 months. The facilities are still clean, but there's a general air of neglect about the whole place. TV reception is virtually unavailable, this was not an issue for us, although other people weren't impressed. Last year this place was well maintained, grass watered and cut, leaves swept and raked, none of this is happening this year. No one is around doing maintenance. At $140.40 for 3 nights 2 adults we didn't feel we were getting value for money. Perhaps next time we come up here we will try another park. A shame to see a good park let go.

WA, Carnarvon, Wintersun Caravan And Tourist Park

Very good caravan park, amenities excellent and kept very clean. Good water pressure, lots of hot water. Park full but amenities coping well. Majority of sites have slabs, some a bit tight to access but someone on hand if you have any problems backing in. When dry and windy roads are watered every day to keep dust down. Plenty of shade, will definitely stay here on the way back home. Very friendly reception. Dogs allowed.

Lovely clean, well maintained park. Good sized grass sites, clean ablutions but could be under pressure if park really full. Good water, hot showers. Good shop, make own bread, cakes pies and sausage rolls every day. Meals available 4 nights a week from the kitchen, morning teas some days. Markets twice a week on the grassed area, with proceeds from music going to RFDS. Nine kms of dirt road to access park. Powered sites first come first served, no bookings. $41 per night x 2 adults. Power goes off twice in the day for about 2 minutes when they change the generators over. Very nice Vietnam Veterans War Memorial which is well looked after. Very impressed.

Cabins and backpackers accommodation available. Toilets and showers extremely clean. Facilities coping well in peak season. Soap in all toilet blocks and hand dryers. WA, Broome, Broome's Gateway

Date of Stay: August 2013 Rating: 4
All sites are unpowered so solar or generator required. Good supply of very good drinking water. Sites are large, a normal park would have at least 2 vans on each site. The sites are red dirt, some are uneven with vegetation sprouting. Two toilet blocks, these are unisex bathroom types, very large and clean. Small laundry. Very quiet, generators only allowed between 8am and 8pm, most campers were considerate. Large fire pit to gather around in the evening, Wednesday night sausage sizzle night (for RFDS) and Saturday night Movie Night with some good recent releases, and popcorn. $25 a night, if you stay over 7 nights you get one free. Our van was stored there while we cruised on the Kimberley Quest and it was only $5 per night to store. This was great as it was going to cost at least $130 to store it in Broome. Stayed nearly 2 weeks and would go back again. This park is a work in progress. The owner is at the moment negotiating with the Broome Council for a dump point. This is a dog friendly park with a large fenced area at the back of the park set aside for owners to walk their dogs. The road into Broome is good and straight and the drive in to town wasn't a problem, in fact it was good to get out to the peace and quiet again.

This is the third time we have stayed here and nothing seems to have changed since 2006. The road in is gravel and this time was extremely rough, had not been graded in months. The caravan parking area has been extended slightly, all red dirt which isn't normally a worry to us but this was loose and an absolute mess. No water, some power if you wanted it, limited to morning and evenings. Shower facilities adequate. Toilets adequate. $20 per night. Won't be going back again, very disappointing.

$48.50 per night. Stayed 2 nights, paid cash to avoid 1.1% surcharge on credit cards. Good clean and tidy park. Good shade, all sites full slabs. Cars park on road but adequate room for other vehicles to move around. Clean bbq's and good laundry. Showers and toilets very clean. Lot of cabins on this park. Manager told us that the Council insist they have a certain number of sites available for caravanners. Have stayed here before and would stay again. Some people have had Singapore ant problems but we ant sand and surface spray and haven't had a problem.

WA, Geraldton, Sunset Beach Holiday Park

Date of Stay: July 2013 Rating: 3.5
BIG4 members $34 per night. Only drive-through available was a bus site, which was grassed but uneven and had large holes to trip over. Some litter around camp site. Amenities were old but clean and okay for an overnight stay. Other drive through sites were grass and dirt but looked good sites. Other sites were a mixture of grass and slab sites. If the park was full don't think the amenities would be adequate.
