NSW, Brunswick Heads, Ferry Reserve Holiday Park

Date of Stay: July 2014 Rating: 3
Beware, before you book into this park make sure that there is no rock concert or music festival planned during your stay. The management will probably not tell you when you book. We weren't told and the place was overrun by drunken, noisy young people (app.300) who stayed at the park and attended the "Splendor in the Grass concert" which was held locally. We had 5 days of mayhem. Spoilt our time there, we stayed for 4 weeks and paid up front, so had to put up with it. Apparently there are 3 music festivals held each year. There is a large camping area on the river end of the park. Even in the middle of winter it fills up each weekend and seems to be very popular.
Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff helped us at the site. Reasonable value for money $248 for 2A PW, powered, off-peak season. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, no sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4. Noisy, claustrophobic park, inadequate shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric BBQs are free, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. No playground. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Liked:- Location close to the river, has its own boat ramp, 2 fish cleaning tables, dog friendly, had 2 doggie bag dispensers in the park, plenty of room to exercise our 2 whippets.
Disliked:- Lots of traffic noise.park is right next to the northern motorway,I am told that 3000 trucks pass here everyday. Lots of noise particularly after dark and early in the morning. There are 2 amenities blocks1 is old and needs refurbishing, but is clean. Park could not handle the influx of the festival goers amenities were a real mess at that time. There is no security anyone can drive in and they do, there is no security gate to stop them. No shop on site, ice and gas refill available and ice creams at office. If you want a newspaper you have to drive nearly 2 kilometres to the town news agency to buy one. We were very disappointed that we we not told about the concert, if we had been, we would have booked a different date. We wont stay here again.
Parking:- Plenty of parking available outside the office.
Added Touches:- There are discounts for meals at local clubs and 1 hotel, no fires are allowed at anytime.
Local Information:- Plenty of fishing spots available be it river, breakwall or beach fishing. There is a reasonable beach area set aside for leash free dog excersing close to the main town area.

One of our favorite parks. Absolutely spotless, has its own lagoon, and is situated adjacent the break wall into the river. While there are a shortage of slab sites, the others are large and each has a type of vinyl sheeting fixed to the grass area. It appears to be better than a slab, easier to back onto. We stayed on a lagoon site for the first time and we are now hooked. The park even has its own hotel (the V wall Tavern) at the front gate. Great well priced meals in the restaurant. Very pet friendly even doggy bags supplied in 2 locations, 1 in the park itself. We will be back next march for 4 weeks.
Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money $245 for 2A PW, powered, shoulder season. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, late checkout allowed, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry, van parking, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5. Quiet, open & roomy park, adequate shade, many permanents. Clean UC BBQs, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground, in good condition. NSW, Tweed Heads, River Retreat Caravan Park - Tweed Heads South

Date of Stay: August 2011 Rating: 3
Manager's name is Fay. Nicely located across the road from Terranora Inlet, this is an older park in need of updating. Older style amenities while clean are in need of attention. Pad bolts on toilet doors are loose, there is cracked panelling in cubicles, no hand drying facilities at all in the toilet blocks, the soap dispenser in the ladies fell off the wall and it took nearly 2 weeks to replace it. While there are a number of slab sites, the large ones which accommodate larger vans etc are grassed and badly drained. We had bad weather during our last week and our annex was flooded 5 times in 4 days. The drainage is almost nonexistent in the grassed sites and no sullage facilities either. There are very large gum trees which were in flower during our month there. Fruit bats were a problem eating the blossoms and defecating on vans under the trees. Due to the trees we could not use our satellite dish so no foxtel. Most of the permanent dwellings are older type but the residents were freindly. Lots of aircraft noise here as the park is directly under the flight path. Be warned bring your ear plugs, the first flight is at 6.07am. The office closes at 12 noon for lunch till 1 pm so if you arrive during this time there is nobody to check you in. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($180 2A per week, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, disabled facilities. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen, dump point, van parking, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade, many permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (20c at a time), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting Clean pool, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for a week or more.
Liked:- handy to tweed heads shopping
Disliked:- aircraft noise, bad drainage, no sullage on grass sites, general run down park

NSW, Wallaga Lake, Ocean Lake Caravan Park

Date of Stay: April 2011 Rating: 4.5
Really liked this park. Stayed overnight on way to Victoria and came back to stay for 10 nights on way home. Has lots of permanents but the van sites are placed close to the water away from the permanents. Lots of cabins here also. The staff are great, never seem to stop working. First class attitude from all of them. Will definitely be back and will stay for a month next time. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($25 2A PN, powered, shoulder season). We paid $150 per week because of stay 7 pay for 6 nights. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, camp kitchen, kiosk, van parking, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, many permanents. UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Liked:- great waterfront location, boat ramp(very steep though) jetty and sandy beach only 8 km to Bermagui so you are not remote, and only 24 km to Narooma where there is a Woolworths supermarket, a lovely quiet park
Disliked:- Fair walk to amenities block, the office is at the foot of the hill near the lake, one has to drive right through the park before you reach it.
Parking:- difficult to park while checking in hard to turn in to front of the office.
Added Touches:- beware of the steep boat ramp which can be very slippery. Contained open fires are supplied along with wood to burn, fish cleaning table, boat washing facilities.

NSW, Goulburn, Goulburn South Caravan Park

Date of Stay: April 2011 Rating: 1
We had read the reports on this park and thought, it can't be that bad. Oh what a dump, will never stop here again. We overnighted. There is no grass on the sites, all water worn clay, not level, the only advantage being that they are drive through. This park needs lots of attention. There seems to be little maintenance done. They don't seem to care as most people stay overnight on their way through. If you have pets there is no alternative park in the area. Very unfriendly staff. Poor value for money ($22 2A PN, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, kiosk, van parking, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Dirty UC electric bbq, dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.

Vic, Mallacoota, Mallacoota Foreshore Caravan Park

Date of Stay: March 2011 Rating: 3.5
This is a huge park, over 750 caravan and camp sites and not a permanent or cabin in sight. Right in the township easy stroll to shops and pub. The park is actually in 2 sections, 1 is owned by the council, the other by the community, all managed by council staff. There are no ensuite sites, and no concrete slabs so you are at the mercy of the weather, and didn't we cop it, water through our annex on a number of occasions (the lakes flooded while we were there). Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($23 2A PN, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, camp kitchen, dump point, van parking, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Dirty UC electric bbq (pay), dismal bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families.
Liked:- great location, handy to water, close to shops, hotel etc. great fishing, fishermen are really catered for by the council, plenty of jetties to fish off, walking trails/cycleways etc
Disliked:- no concrete slabs, no clothes lines, too far to walk to the garbage bins, up to 200m to the dumpmaster bins, no bins anywhere near the sites. Too much dust from passing cars even though we had plenty of rain. The yobbos disregarded the 10km speed limit and this created a danger for children.
Parking:- not much room to park while checking in
Added Touches:- Open fires allowed and supplied
Local Information:- good meals at the hotel, dinner starts at 6pm, people queue up from 5.45pm so get there early
Road Conditions:- twisting winding sealed road to Mallacoota from the highway, plenty of tight corners
