NSW, Valla Beach, Valla Beach Resort

Date of Stay: August 2022 Rating: 2
I will start this report by advising that a new owner had taken over the resort shortly before our stay. We had a Travel Auction Voucher, our bid being $25 pn pwd. Due to a large booking we split our stay into 2 x 5 nights. From conversations with other guests they also had used Travel Auctions. This is a large park which includes a large residentail village and many annual sites. This two areas are separate from most of the camping area. Guests are not allowed to walk around the residential area. For the most part, the annual sites are very run down. The existing cabin accomodation is to be removed. There are two amenity blocks, but on both our visits all camping was based neared the only block which was open. The amenities were cleaned each day, but to my knowledge at least one cubical was not replenished for at least four days. The laundry is very run down, with no hot water even in the sink. To use machines you are required to purchase a token at office. The camp kitchen was situated on the far side of office, not operating restaurant and tennis courts. ie a long way from any sites. The 3 BBQs were very dirty and rusty. Only one had a working gas bottle. It did have hot water, jug, toaster and fridge, but I am not sure if I would put food in it. The resort was set up for conferences, and still advertises as such, but without any accomodation I don't know how it will be usable. The shop had very limited supplies. When we arrived there had been heavy rain and many of the sites were dug up and rutted. The only thing that seemed in good condition was the pool, which may relate more to the requirements for the residentail village. A van supplied coffee and food most mornings, with pizza a couple of evenings. While we found the $25 pn a stretch for facilities provided, the normal rate is over $40 increasing to over $100 over Xmas. We wish the new owners the best of luck bringing the resort back to what it was at some time in the past. Likes - access to river and beach. Close proximity to Nambucca Heads, Coffs Harbour and Bellingen among other places. Monthly markets in park next door. Good meals at local Tavern, a couple of coffee shops in town.

NSW, Hawks Nest, Jimmy's Beach Caravan Park

Date of Stay: June 2022 Rating: 3.5
We have stayed here many times when travelling north. The good news is the road in has been repaired at last. Cost was $32 pn with disc for 7 night stay. Amenity blocks OK but takes while to get hot water. Limited camp kitchen with BBQs, sink, fridge and an instant hot water heater for making hot drinks. A few picnic tables and TV in a very open building, so not really suitable in cold weather. The park is on two levels requiring some guests to walk up and down stairs to access amenities. An area at rear of park surrounded by bush. Signs in laundry indicating they are moving towards card only use to operate the machines. Very few permanants, in good condition, can only be used for a limited number of days. Likes: love the area. Plenty to do. Fishing, Swimming, bush walking, drives to surrounding towns. Dislikes: problems with dingos in area. They wander around the whole town.

NSW, Denman, Denman Van Village

Date of Stay: June 2022 Rating: 3.5
Price is $40 for an ensuite site. All sites are ensuite. The ensuite are old, but kept clean. Plenty of hot water. We were guided to our site, with assistance to position van. There is a large grass area with a small river. Nice for relaxing in sun. There was a BBQ. We were not told if there was a kitchen or laundry an did not locate either when walking around the park. Many cabins and permanents. Park is away from the main road, but close to the railway line. However, we did not hear many trains during the night. Short walk to shops and hotel. Good spot for an overnight stopover.

NSW, Tenterfield, Tenterfield Lodge Caravan Park

Date of Stay: September 2021 Rating: 4.5
The owners Di and Barry really make this park. They are welcoming and friendly, giving lots of advise re sightseeing or where to eat in town. Price was $33 pn but discount for Kui Parks is applicable. If staying for a week a choice of a cooked breakfast, frozen meal (book for any day) or Devonshire tea (avail Sat or Sun only), or $15 discount is available. This is a small park, but most sites give plenty of room. Many sites are drive thru, and most do not have other sites behind them. ie back onto trees and bushes. Lovely garden feel. There are no permanent sites, and max stay is 8 weeks, although essential workers are exempt. The amenities are kept spotless, dump point available. There is no specific disabled facilities but both male and females facilities had a toilet and shower with hand rails. A shower seat was also available to use in the cubicle. The female facilities also had a small bath suitable for bathing young children. I understand there is also a dog wash, and machine for washing pet blankets etc available. There are many sightseeing opportunities in the area including Mt McKenzie and Bald Rock. When borders open a day trip into Qld is possible. Tenterfield itself has lovely historic buildings, and due to trees I imagine Autumn would be pretty in the area. Very good railway museum across road. Something Di and Barry insist on, and I imagine it will happen more, is that all guests be Covid Vax.

NSW, Coraki, Coraki Riverside Park

Date of Stay: July 2021 Rating: 4.5
This is a lovely little park on the river in Coraki. Price $30pn pow, however stay 4 pay 3 available. Unpowered sites actually run along the river bank. Sites are basically flat, some with slabs. The amenities a fairly new and spotless. Due to possible flooding to access the amenities you actually go up to the street to enter the facilities which have coded keypad. There is a basic kitchen with fridge jug sink etc. There is also a laundry. Across the rd is small supermarket, butcher and bakery. Meals available at pub, chinese at bowls club and good pizza down the rd. If required fast food and pharmacy are on the main road. Not much traffic noise. Nice area to tour, close to Ballina, Lismore, Casino, Evans Head and lots of small villages. My only complaint is no BBQ or clothes line within the park. Would certainly visit again.

Vic, Buchan, Buchan Caves Reserve

Date of Stay: November 2020 Rating: 3.5
Cost $27.50 pwd pn. The park is controlled by Parks Vic so all bookings must be made by phone or internet. Warning mobile phone and internet may not be good if you arrive at park and decide to stay. Unfortunately part of the campground is out of action due to the Dec/Jan bushfires. The remaining sites are close to the info centre with an amenities block. The amenities block includes a laundry. There is a disabled bathroom. My experience in the shower was one day I had a problem getting hot water, the next day it was perfect. There is kitchen which only has some seating and sinks. There are BBQs outside. Due to COVID19 the caves have not yet reopened. Due to the fires most walks are closed. The campground is a short walk to the township of Buchan which has a Roadhouse and Hotel which both do meals. At night wallabies come to the campground to graze, and there are lots of birds to listen to and see. The caves are a good start point of 4wd in the hills. We drove to Orbost via Bete Belong, which was scenic driving through the hills (unfortunately burnt) and then down along the Snowy River.

Vic, Lakes Entrance, NRMA Eastern Beach Holiday Park

Date of Stay: November 2020 Rating: 4
We brought a package at the park via Travel Auctions. It was our first outing after the Covid 19 Lockdown. Many of our fellow campers were doing the same. There are two sections to the park, one being around the jumping pillow and near the large amenities block and kitchen. The pool is nearby. We were in the other section close to a smaller and older amenities block, and camp kitchen. The amenities were clean, but I found the old shower cubicles small, so walked across to the larger block. These amenities have two sections, for both male and female. One section held toilets and showers, the second section was showers only. This section is probably only open during in busy seasons. Both amenity blocks had good hot water, and had laundry facilities. The large camp kitchen had seating, BBQs, fridges and pizza ovens. The smaller one only had BBqs, fridges and sinks. The area we were in had large sites, many drive thru. The other area had a number of sites requiring the van to be backed into a circle area, with an open area behind. If we visited the park again we would ask to return to the area we were in. The park is a short walk from the ocean beach where there is a very good playground. You can walk into the shopping strip, with part of the walk through a bush area, and along the boardwalk which is still being completed. We walked along the beach to the entrance, returning through the bush to the footbridge into town. Drives to nearby Metung, Buc han Caves, Orbost are all scenic. We took a cruise around the lakes, seeing dophins and seals at the entrance. Many coffee shops and hotels for meals. We enjoyed the Boatshed on North Arm, and the Bowls Club.

Vic, Nicholson, Lakes Bushland Caravan Park

Date of Stay: February 2020 Rating: 4.5
This is a family run park set in the bush. The owners are Ken and his wife and daughter. Because of the recent fires, the park was evacuated and we called in not knowing if it still existed or not. Luckily, although the fires were close, there was no damage. We paid $35 pn pwd, but stays of 7 days pay 6. There are a number of permenants here the sites are so big and spread out it doesn't matter. No straight lines and neat squares here. You can really feel in the bush. The amenities are small, and I am not sure how they would cope in busy times. There is a laundry and small camp kitchen. There is also a large log shed which can be used for group gatherings. There is a swimming pool and 9 hole golf course, playground. I did not notice anything specific for disabled people. When suitable open fires are allowed. Unfortunately it rained during out stay, which was a bit of a trek to amenities, but that is only complaint. While staying, drivings to Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Omeo, Paynesville, Metung and other small towns in area. Launching ramp at Nicholson if required. Hotel in Nicholson, or short drive to Bairnsdale for meals. This is a great park if you want to be in the bush, but close to civilization.

Vic, Lakes Entrance, Woodbine Caravan Park

Date of Stay: February 2020 Rating: 4.5
This is only a small park, so would not like to stay in busy season. We paid $105 under stay 4 pay 3 deal. The park is owned by the local Bowls Club which is across the road, and a discount meal voucher is included in rate. There are some drive thru sites with cement pads, or grass. The other sites are small, but have a few for large rigs. The camp kitchen is large and well set out. Although it is open it faces away from the prevailing wind, with a small closed off area which includes cook tops and sinks. There is utensils and crockery etc in cupboards. There is nothing specific for families, but there is a childs toilet, and baby bath in the ladies, and high chairs in camp kitchen. The ladies also has a room with a bath and separate shower, so Mum would have room to move if she was washing a couple of kids. There is a separate disabled toilet. There are no permanents, but 3 modern cabins, and a house for rent. Facilities are old, but clean, with plenty of hot water. The park is close to Woolies, a short walk to beach, and near the North Arm. Due to size any boat trailer, or the car, would need to be parked in the street during busy times. Did not notice any noise from the Bowls Club at night. There is also a coffee shop a Club if you need that morning Latte. Nearby visits to Metung, Lake Tyers Beach, Buchan Caves, Paynesville and Orbost. Cruises available to Metung for Lunch, or longer trip taking in Paynesville. Have fun at the mini golf or just relax at the various Cafes. Walk along the beach to the entrance (we saw seals cavorting) and back along the lake, following the path through the bush. A very enjoyable stay.
