Qld, Brisbane, Bells Caravan Park - Clontarf

Date of Stay: February 2014 Rating: 3.5
Manager's name is Russ and Judy
A good park that is well managed and suited our requirements of a long term stay. Choose your site carefully as some are exposed to the prevailing winds off Moreton Bay.
Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Good value for money ($186 2A PW, powered). Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, open & roomy park, inadequate shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families.
Liked:- It is handy to most things in the northern Brisbane area.
Disliked:- Most sites are very exposed when the prevailing wind (South- Easterly) is up.

We have been coming to this park for a few years and nothing really changes. The park is generally well kept. The amenities are kept as neat and tidy as the cleaning staff can get them. They become untidy over the weekends but that is the fault of the patrons, not the staff. Despite the signs not too many people seem to understand what the mop near the showers or the brush in the toilets are for! Management still has the same shortcomings that have been reported now by many for a number of years. But we will keep coming and enjoying the wider environment.

We can see why this park gets good reports normally but our experience over a holiday weekend was quite a different one. The park was packed. Our site was a long way from everything and next to septic trenches which became quite "wiffy" after a short time. The staff were friendly and helpful . The amenities were kept generally clean but they were at their limit and the septic system was overwhelmed on day one. We were told it was a min of 3 nights booking over the long weekend but saw a number come and go after booking for a shorter period. At $36/night 2A , not particularly cheap. With the demise of analogue there is no television reception in the area without a satellite disc. After 2 nights of groups partying until 2am we moved out a day early. The park and the town have a lot to offer and we would like to visit again but we will most definitely avoid the popular camping long weekends.

Qld, Stanthorpe, Top of the Town Tourist Park

A large park that seems to cater for visitors from motel through to bush camping. The site we were on was tight but there are others that seemed OK. Management friendly and welcoming. Plenty to do in the region and this park would provide a good base.

An excellent park. Management was welcoming, friendly and informative. Amenities were clean and adequate. Sites were a mix of slabs and grass and were large enough to cope with most vans. The whole complex was neat and tidy and we would stay again. It is suitable for any length of stay.

Vic, Portland, Portland Tourist Park

Date of Stay: September 2013 Rating: 2.5
We were really disappointed with this park. It is generally untidy. There was work going on but it was for the installation of a playground where the owners would have been better served with replacing some of the facilities such en-suites which were well past their use-by dates. Managers were rarely sighted in the park. They were friendly but offered little at check-in. Communication was poor. A water failure caused by a broken pipe (not their fault) was let go without any information being passed on to guests. We are sure there are better parks in Portland.

A neat and tidy park with a mix of cabins, a couple of slabs, a number of grassed sites with the rest gravel and drive through. it is more oriented towards overnighters than extended stays even though it provides a handy base for side trips along the Murray and into the Victorian North-East hills. The sites are small and difficult to access. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful with local information. The amenities are well maintained.

NSW, Coolah, Coolah Caravan Park

Date of Stay: September 2013 Rating: 2.5
A small crowded park with tight sites. The amenities are old but clean. Staff are friendly. The park is going through the process of converting into a residential village and home base for nomads and there is a building program of cabins in progress. There is nothing to keep one in Coolah for more than a couple of nights and the park is suitable for this. The road north was bad when we travelled in this area 3 years ago, it has subsequently degenerated to shocking. To quote a main roads sign just north of Coolah " the road is deformed for the next 75kms" - which is a fair description.

An excellent park in a welcoming town with a great green and fresh look. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($30 2A PN, powered, peak season). Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Liked:- Attitude of management.
Local Information:- RSL 150 metre walk. The town has some lovely parks with the Captains' Walk (cricket) being a highlight.

This excellent park has become a favourite of ours. It is a great location beside the Lachlan River. It is always clean and well maintained. The management was helpful and friendly. The amenities are clean and kept clean. The only negative is the BBQ in the camp kitchen area which is old, rusted and uninviting to cook food on. It needs to be discarded and replaced.
