NSW, Cowra, Cowra Van Park

Date of Stay: April 2016 Rating: 4
This park is right on the edge of town and is walking distance to cafes, pubs, supermarket & shops. The owners couldn't be more helpful and take pride in looking after the park - roadways are swept, grass is green and neatly mown. Sites are clean and clearly marked, many are concrete slab sites with water and power but there are grassed sites available too. Amenities are not new but they are immaculately clean and well looked after. There is a camp kitchen which looks like it is new along with a number of BBQs which are also immaculately clean. I thought the $36 per night tariff was pretty good for the location and quality of this park. The only drawback I can find is that there is some background traffic noise but nothing too bad.

This is a no frills alternative to the other more up market caravan parks in Cowra. The amenities are old but acceptable. There are new power and water stands for the powered sites. There is no shade and while the caretaker tries to keep the area watered to keep the grass alive there are a lot of bare dirt patches making it a bit dusty. The horsey odour from the adjacent stables is not too bad but be prepared for the flies that like the horsey products - there are plenty! At $20 per night for a powered site this is fine for an overnight or a few days, providing you have a screen door to keep the flies out !

I had mixed expectations having read previous posts, but I found a small, pleasant little site just a short walk from the town centre. Some sites have concrete slabs, most of the rest of the areas are patchy dirt & grass. There is power and water for most sites. Most have some shade. The amenities block is in the process of being refurbished to a very nice standard. If you're expecting 5 stars this isn't the caravan park for you. However if you want a reasonably priced no frills site, then this place is fine for a few days.

Eddie, the caretaker, was very friendly and helpful. Powered and unpowered sites are available. Water from taps around the show ground. There is also a dump point. Suitable for an overnight stay. Plenty of sites but few are level.

NSW, Newcastle, Newcastle's Stockton Beach Caravan Park - Stockton

Date of Stay: November 2015 Rating: 4.5
Stayed here before but last weekend was a last minute decision. I got one of the last 3 powered sites available when I rocked up without a booking on Saturday afternoon. Receptionists were very friendly and welcoming. The park was fairly full but most sites are large and there is plenty of room. Amenities are relatively new or refurbished, immaculately clean and well maintained. Children's playground, dump point, BBQs, camp kitchen area are extra facilities that I can think of. Easy walk into Stockton, Stockton Beach, the Breakwater and ferry to Newcastle.

What a good find this place was! Good value for money. It's an older site but the facilities are very clean and well maintained. Some sites were just dirt/gravel but level enough - perfect for a small camper van like mine. There were also other larger sites more suitable for caravan-car combinations. Very close to the shopping centre with all the usual big names and a short level walk to Queanbeyan CBD for other shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. Easy drive into Canberra. I stayed for the long weekend and found it very convenient. I will definitely stay again
