Qld, Winton, Matilda Country Tourist Park

Date of Stay: July 2018 Rating: 1
We stayed in a cabin in this park and it was terrible. $120 for one room with a curtain separating the toilet, hand basin and shower. The hand basin was so small you could only put 2-3 fingers under the tap. The 21 ‘TV was on the wall beside the bed and the cords run down the wall to the bed. The bar fridge only froze food. The owner had gone AWOL and left a singer to be the admin and cook, and her husband as the tour guide and maintenance man. On our second night the bed collapsed while we were sitting on it to watch TV. My husband put it back together but there were two screws missing from each end. When we told the people when we were leaving they said ‘oh we have a new bed out the back.’ Would not recommend this park to anyone. We only stayed there because the parks and motels were full. We wanted to visit the age of dinasours, which we enjoyed.

This park is under new management from 14 October 2016 so some things have changed since our last report. Still $40 PN 2A, powered site, off peak season. family parks member. No dump point and they no longer provide the service where you can give them your cassette and they will empty it. Telstra reception quality was 2. TV reception poor in some spots. There used to be a bistro open Friday and Saturday nights but that is being 'revamped'. Not sure about the games room anymore as it was with the bistro. Maintenance not as good as when we were here before. Last time, there were people around all the time tidying up, doing lawns etc. but this time we didn't see anyone. Garbage bins were overflowing, ladies loo running out of paper in some toilets. Maybe they just need to get organised.

We didn’t stay here but thought we would check it out. There is a drive thru dump point for the area, but you need to turn around in the campgrounds as there is not a big enough turnaround for vans. There is no shade except a few trees on the edge of the fence. Can be a walk to the amenities. Roads are dirt around the grounds. No bats here but it is closer to the railway line.

This park is right on the creek and two days before we arrived they had 45m of rain they thought the creek might overflow. They closed the park until lunch time the next day and the creek receeded. Caretaker is across the road from the park. We paid $27pn 2A off peak. Most of the sites are on concrete with power on poles in the middle. Water only every 2nd site. Sullage nearby but the one on our site was blocked from all the rain, so the grey water went on the grass. Small park with only a couple of spots for large vans. Amenities in good condition and clean. Very large toilets, good size showers. Shampoo and conditioner in each shower. Good water, soap and paper towels provided. Coal trains run thru the town throughout the day and night, you can hear them from the park but it isnt too loud. No dump point but there is one near the Gunnedah turnoff that you can drive into. The town has a great butcher and the museum is worth looking at. Suitable for long stop. Telstra quality 3.
