Vic, Creswick, Creswick Calembeen Lake Caravan Park

Date of Stay: March 2015 Rating: 2
After 4 years it was interesting to return to the Creswick caravan Park. As before the owners were pleasant and quite "laid back". The park has not changed though there appears to be a new kitchen and 2 barbeques plus a slightly better playground. Unfortunately the old amenity block is older and not in good order - though its cleanliness was fine. With taps stuck and running ( I tried to turn one off, to no avail), locks rusted or missing and the building old and smelly the old amenities block needs replacing. The dump point is in a small concrete trough right next-door to a permanent old bus - surprising if this is allowed by health & safety people. There are no concrete slabs and the sites are not all level but there is plenty of grass and it was nice to see it being watered. The laundry is old but satisfactory though it gets a lot of work from the many permanents in the park. Overall the park was disappointing and made worse by the large numbers of European Wasps all over the park.

Vic, Lakes Entrance, NRMA Eastern Beach Holiday Park

Date of Stay: November 2014 Rating: 4
Pleasant obliging staff - happy to get a plumber at short notice to fix my inlet tap (previous tenant had run over it). Power, water & sullage close to the site which had a shade cloth pad. The amenities block was kept clean in the almost full park. Adjacent to the amenities block was a modern laundry and not far away was the camp kitchen/BBQ are/recreation room - all quite modern and clean. The dump point is not far away. Nearby are the pool, playground and jumping castle, also in good condition. There is free WiFi available which was rather 'temperamental' during our stay - as was my Telstra dongle. Mobile phone reception was OK. This is probably the most expensive park in Lakes Entrance and it is a good 15 minutes to the nearest shops but it is easily the best park in Lakes Entrance and will take big rigs. I rate it a 4 as I believe a rating of 5 is only applicable to the best parks, such as those provided by RACV

NSW, Junee, Junee Caravan Park

Date of Stay: August 2014 Rating: 3.5
This is a good country town caravan park but I find it hard to justify the cost of $35 pn (2A) for this standard park in an inland country town. We had been paying $25-$30 for coastal parks with better facilities. The park has very pleasant managers and it seems this often is the reason for high scores for ordinary parks. The park has no concrete slabs but has power, water & sullage close to sites, which are not all level. The facilities are old (clean) but the drying area in the mens showers were very wet. There is a tiny pool, a simple playground and a very basic barbecue/camp kitchen. A dump point is available. The adjoining park is excellent - as is the liquorice factory - but these are not part of the park. We enjoyed our stay in Junee but if we did return would probably "free camp " rather than use this overpriced park

Qld, Gold Coast, Big4 Gold Coast Holiday Park - Helensvale

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 4.5
Large Big4 park with all the usual trappings - good pool, playground, jumping castle - plus an animal farm and an excellent enclosed offlead area for dogs - the best I have seen. We were placed in the 'dog area', which also took the larger rigs. It was down near the river and sites had power, water but no sullage. This was unfortunate as the ground was wet in areas and smelt from the sullage sitting there. Probable more a problem if the park was full. There were no concrete pads here but these were available throughout the rest of the park. There are permanents in one area of the park. There is dump point that is accessible for motorhomes with holding tanks. The park has recently changed hands to a Sydney group (we were told). The new owners are improving the park with the new amenity block (including a brilliant fish tank), an animal farm for the kids and lots of agility equipment in the new offload area. There is a good cafe in the pool area - unfortunately with restricted opening hours in the off-peak season. There are many staff and the whole park is well cared for. The laundry is new and has excellent large machines. There is a camp kitchen below the amenities block. The old amenities block is closed but apparently is going to be reopened as a games room. Cost is fairly prohibitive for a long stay at $44pn (2A) but this would be expected given it's location (near the theme parks) and its "bells and Whistles". It is certainly one of the better parks we have stayed at.

Qld, Sunshine Coast, Mudjimba Beach Caravan Park - Mudjimba

Manager's name is Robert & Karen Mitchell.
This is a dog friendly park and takes larger dogs - but this may change as management seems to be "anti" larger dogs. On our stay over half the tourist vans had dogs and all seemed well behaved. One person had her dog off lead in a quiet corner of the park doing obedience training and was promptly evicted from the park by a shouting, arm waving office lady - so be warned!! Management seems very disorganised and not helpful. The park has concrete slabs, power and water. There are sullage points but ours (and others) was blocked so we let it run on the ground where it disappeared quickly in the sand. There are many trees for shade. Sites are not large - though there were larger sites in the 'no dogs' area There are two amenity blocks which are old but clean and there is a laundry (3 washing machines plus dryers) and a covered BBQ area. Half the park is occupied by permanents. There is a dump point. The park is only 100 metres from the beach which allows dogs on lead plus there is an off-lead area someway down the beach . There are coffee shops nearby but the closest supermarket is about 2 km. This is a pretty ordinary park in a lovely area. It is expensive at $305 per week shoulder season ($44 pn 2A) but this is the same for all parks in this region.

NSW, Temora, Temora Caravan Park

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 3
This is a sloping grassed area with central amenities block containing a laundry in between male and female shower toilet blocks. The amenities were old but clean. No camp kitchen but there is a covered BBQ (free). The fee is collected by a semiresident owner of a 5th wheeler if the caretaker is unable to- cost is $20 pn or $100 per week. The park is dog friendly but the town isn't! Only one of the many ovals and recreation areas allowed dogs. We stayed a week as there is much to see in the area and would stay here again if we return to this area

NSW, Gunnedah, Gunnedah Kennel Club Campground

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 2
This little camp area fenced off from the show ground has power and water to the sites - select a level patch near an outlet - and an old toilet/shower block that was not very clean (so we didn't use it). There was also a small laundry (1 machine but no dryer) but it was locked an may not be available for use. A caretaker call in the evening to collect the fee ($20pn pv). It is quite suitable for a night or 2 while looking for the Koala's - Gunnedah markets itself a Koala Town, but we didn't see any!

NSW, Glen Innes, Fossicker Caravan Park

Date of Stay: June 2014 Rating: 2
This is a very small old park run by a pleasant, helpful manager.Cost of $30pn (2A) was acceptable but rather more than we had been paying for better caravan parks on our way north. Sites were small with concrete slabs and a levelled stone area adjacent to take the van - our 28ft motorhome wheels didn't fit on this so needed levelling. The amenities block was old but clean and there is an old laundry with dilapidated machines as well as a BBQ area in similar condition. The park offers a 3 cents discount on fuel - but it is cheaper down the road! Suitable for an overnighter (just)

NSW, Tamworth, Austin Tourist Park

Date of Stay: May 2014 Rating: 2.5
We were put in the section near the river as we travel with a dog. This section is basically a paddock with power and water to sites - you may need a long hose and power lead if the park is full. There is a basic amenities block which had (in the male section) 1 shower and 2 toilets and even with the park less than half full this was inadequate. There is a larger block with laundry in the upper section. The sites were unlevel with no slabs and the trees needed trimming - we gathered several small branches in the top of our motorhome. There didn't appear to be any supermarkets within walking distance as the park is on the edge of the town. At $36 pn (2A) for a powered site I thought it poor value and will look elsewhere if we pass through Tamworth again

Vic, Cobram, Cobram Willows Caravan Park

Date of Stay: April 2014 Rating: 3.5
We have previously stayed at the RACV park in Cobram but now we travel with a dog we needed a 'pet friendly'park so tried the Willows caravan park - we were pleasantly surprised. It is a small quiet park ($28 per night 2 A) with very congenial management. Sites have lots of shade, power, sullage and water and most have slabs. Amenities are old but clean and there is a large BBQ/cmp kitchen area with limited facilities. The laundry is adjacent. There is a small playground but no TV room , pool or other children friendly amenities. TV and mobile phone reception are both good. We will stay here again when we return to this area as we preferred it to the RACV park which is beautifully set up but sterile, impersonal and expensive
